Carlos Rodriguez fired a scoreless inning with a strikeout in his start against the Reds on Saturday.
Rodriguez, 23, was not effective in his time in the majors last year with a 7.30 ERA and 1.78 WHIP. That was over a sample of three starts and 12 1/3 innings, and he’s still considered one of the better pitching prospects in the Milwaukee system. He could make starts for the Brew Crew again in 2025, but not likely to begin the season.

Mark Vientos said he’s already back hitting and jogging one week after being placed on the IL with a hamstring strain.
The strain looked bad when it happened, but it turned out to be quite a bit milder than expected, and it’s starting to sound like Vientos might be back next week. Meanwhile, Ronny Mauricio is getting more of Vientos’s at-bats and is hoping to prove indispensable by the time Vientos is ready to return.
Fantasy expectations for Red Sox's Anthony
Primed to hit in the middle of Boston's lineup, top prospect Roman Anthony appears set to deliver raw power and a selective approach for the Red Sox and fantasy managers moving forward.
  • BOS Left Fielder #7
Masataka Yoshida, on the IL since the start of the season as he recovers from shoulder surgery, said he has extended his throwing out to 105 feet and that he could begin a rehab assignment in late June or early July.
Yoshida’s bat is fine, as he showed this spring, but he hasn’t been able to play the outfield because of the shoulder. He’ll probably rejoin the Red Sox in the second half, but unless Rafael Devers reverses course and becomes a first baseman, there probably won’t much for Yoshida to do.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #84
Marlins recalled RHP Lake Bachar from Triple-A Jacksonville.
The Marlins played with an open spot last night after putting Ryan Weathers on the IL, so Bachar comes up without a countermove today. He had a 4.73 ERA in 26 2/3 innings out of the Marlins pen before being sent down on May 24. He’d since allowed one run and struck out six in three innings in Triple-A.
  • LAA Left Fielder #33
Angels placed INF/OF Chris Taylor on the 10-day injured list with a fractured left hand.
Taylor was hit on the hand by a pitch last night, though he stayed in afterwards and there was no indication after the game that it led to an injury. A fractured hand is typically at least a four- to six-week injury, though it could be less for Taylor if it’s a hairline fracture. This isn’t the way the Angels were intending to make room for the newly acquired LaMonte Wade Jr. on the roster, but it works out that way all the same. Matthew Lugo was probably in line for a demotion, but he gets to stick around now.
  • COL Center Fielder #22
Rockies activated OF Mickey Moniak from the bereavement list.
Sean Bouchard was demoted previously to open up a roster spot. Moniak will start in right field against some righties, but he seems destined to lose some playing time until he gets hot or Tyler Freeman cools down.
  • KC 2nd Baseman #19
Royals placed 2B Michael Massey on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to June 8, with a sprained left ankle.
Massey was scratched from the lineup on May 28 with left ankle soreness before returning three days later. If it’s still bothering him, that’s a good excuse to put him on a rehab assignment for a spell, though he has all of his options remaining and there was no reason the Royals couldn’t have sent him down several weeks ago. Massey has hit a disastrous .202/.221/.258 over 209 plate appearances as one of the league’s worst players this year. Jonathan India will start at second base for now, though he’s been doing quite a bit of that anyway. Nick Loftin and Drew Waters figure to pick up extra at-bats in Massey’s place.
  • KC 2nd Baseman #2
Royals recalled INF-OF Tyler Tolbert from Omaha Storm Chasers.
The speedy Tolbert played in 13 games during his first stint with the Royals and went 0-for-5 with six steals. He should be used in a similar fashion this time around, as his bat just isn’t major league quality.
  • PHI 2nd Baseman #5
Bryson Stott, who typically leads off against righties, has been dropped to fifth in the Phillies lineup against the Cubs on Tuesday.
At least that’s still better than the seventh and eighth he was hitting at the beginning of the season. Stott is 3-for-26 this month, and he had a weak .228/.280/.327 line in his 38 starts from the leadoff spot. The Phillies have Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber hitting first and second tonight, rather than second and third.
  • NYM Catcher #4
Mets placed C Franciso Alvarez on the paternity list.
Alvarez, who hit his second homer of the year in his last appearance Sunday, will rejoin the Mets this weekend. In the meantime, Luis Torrens will start behind the plate.
  • NYM Catcher #30
Mets recalled C Hayden Senger from Triple-A Syracuse.
Senger will back up Luis Torrens for a few days with Francisco Alvarez absent. He went 5-for-28 while in that role for most of the first month of the season.
