Blue Jays signed RHP Jacob Barnes to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The 34-year-old has played for nine seasons as a reliever and mostly recently recorded a 4.36 ERA with the Nationals in 2024. He figures to serve as organizational depth in the bullpen.

Sal Frelick is back in the lineup for the Brewers on Monday after missing time with a sore left calf.
Frelick’s absence was considered precautionary, with the injury being called “very minor.” The 24-year-old should be an everyday option for the Brew Crew to open — and likely end — the 2025 campaign.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #35
Yankees signed LHP Ryan Yarbrough to a one-year contract.
Yarbrough was released by the Blue Jays on Sunday, and it didn’t take long for him to find a new home. He’ll be a multi-inning option for the Yankees, and possibly could make starts if options like Will Warren and Carlos Carrasco scuffle. Luis Gil (lat) was placed on the IL to make room.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #81
Yankees placed RHP Luis Gil on the 60-day injured list.
Gil has a lat strain that is going to keep him out for at least the first few months of the season, with the hope being the defending Rookie of the Year pitches in the summer. The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster, and the Yankees used that space to sign Ryan Yarbrough.
  • STL Relief Pitcher #74
Nick Anderson went unclaimed after exercising his upward mobility clause.
The upward mobility clause is essentially waivers; if a team wanted Anderson, they could have claimed him and put him on the 40-man roster. Instead, Anderson remains with the Cards, and Ari Alexander of KPRC reports that Anderson can opt out of his deal by May 30. He’s just depth at this stage in his career.
  • TB Relief Pitcher #43
Ryan Bass of Fanduel Sports Network reports that Hunter Bigge will be a part of the Rays’ Opening Day roster.
Bigge was optioned to Triple-A by the Rays on Saturday, but with Shane McClanahan (triceps) hitting the injured list, Bigge will be a multi-inning option for the Tampa Bay pitching staff to begin 2025.
  • PIT Relief Pitcher #50
Carmen Mlodzinski will be the fifth starter to open the season for the Pirates.
Or rather, he’ll be one of the five starters for Pittsburgh, as the team hasn’t set the rotation outside of Paul Skenes starting Opening Day. The opening comes with Jared Jones (elbow) unavailable to start the year, and Mlodzinski wins the job over pitchers like Thomas Harrington and Bubba Chandler — for now. Mlodzinski is a former first-round pick, but doesn’t have the stuff to be a good option in fantasy formats.
  • PIT Left Fielder #29
DJ Stewart is not expected to make the Opening Day roster for the Pirates.
Stewart was signed as a non-roster invite in January, and the 31-year-old can opt out of his contract Monday if he’s not added to the 40-man roster. Assuming he’s not, Stewart should see interest from other clubs, but likely will only find another minor league contract.
  • PIT Relief Pitcher #43
Ryan Borucki is expected to make the Opening Day roster for the Pirates.
The Pirates will need to add Borucki to the 40-man roster in order for him to join the Opening Day group. The southpaw will likely be a middle-inning option for Pittsburgh while he’s with the club.
  • TB Starting Pitcher #18
Shane McClanahan told reporters Monday that there is no timetable for when he’ll be able to return to the mound.
McClanahan did tell those reporters that he’s feeling better, and that he feels fortunate that he’s only dealing with inflammation in his left triceps. The Rays won’t take any risks with the 27-year-old, so while it’s possible this could be a short stay on the injured list, fantasy players certainly shouldn’t count on it.
  • PHI First Baseman #2
Kody Clemens has been informed that he’s made the Opening Day roster.
The final roster spot for Philadelphia came down to Clemens vs. Buddy Kennedy, and Clemens wins. The 28-year-old will be a bench option for the Phillies — particularly against right-handed pitching. Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports that the Phillies will now look to trade Kennedy, and a team looking for a multi-position bench option could have interest.
