Angels signed RHP Shaun Anderson to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The 30-year-old right-hander appeared in six games between the Rangers and Marlins during the 2024 campaign, registering an underwhelming 8.27 ERA, 2.14 WHIP and a 10/1 K/BB ratio across 16 1/3 innings. He’ll add bullpen depth for the Halos.

Max Scherzer (thumb) pitched decently in his first minor league rehab start at Triple-A Buffalo on Friday night, giving up two runs on four hits over his 4 1/3 innings of work.
The 40-year-old right-hander struck out four batters on the night and didn’t walk a batter. His fastball averaged 91.9 mph in the contest and touched as high as 94 mph. Scherzer threw 56 pitches in the game, 39 of those for strikes while generating 11 swings and misses. The expectation is that he’ll need at least one additional minor league rehab start before he’s an option to join the Jays’ rotation.
Casparius may get good ratios as Dodgers starter
Eric Samulski analyzes the Dodgers moving Ben Casparius into the starting rotations and what he will bring to fantasy managers in his new role.
  • DET Left Fielder #8
Matt Vierling (shoulder) began a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Toledo on Friday.
He’ll stay there at least through the weekend before being re-evaluated. The 28-year-old has been sidelined since late May due to renewed inflammation in his shoulder. The fact that he’s already back in live game action is very encouraging though and it’s possible that he could rejoin the big league club at some point next week if everything goes well.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #45
Reese Olson (finger) will begin a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Toledo on Saturday.
The 25-year-old right-hander has been shelved since mid-May due to inflammation in his right ring finger. He should only need one or two tune-ups in the minor leagues before he’s ready to jump back into the Tigers’ rotation.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #38
Alex Cobb (hip) received a cortisone injection on Friday to combat inflammation in his left hip.
The 37-year-old hurler is working his way back from a right hip injury and now it looks like his other hip is causing him problems as well. The perils of growing old. They’ll wait a few days to see how he responds to that before resuming his minor league rehab assignment.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #47
Frankie Montas was clobbered for eight runs on seven hits over 1 2/3 innings in his minor league rehab start at Triple-A Syracuse on Friday.
The right-hander also walked a batter and served up a home run in the miserable outing. He got stretched out to 53 pitches this time out, but the Mets are going to want to see the results improve significantly before he becomes an option to help out at the big league level. Montas has been shelved since spring training due to a lat strain.
  • BOS 3rd Baseman #2
Alex Bregman (quad) told reporters on Friday that he’s hopeful he’ll be able to return before the All-Star break.
The 31-year-old third baseman noted that an ultrasound on Wednesday showed that he was doing well and healing the way that the doctor’s wanted it to. The Red Sox don’t anticipate him being ready to return before the end of June, but a return before the All-Star break seems like a realistic expectation.
  • SF 3rd Baseman #26
Matt Chapman (hand) is expected to miss another three or four weeks due to inflammation in his right hand.
Chapman visited a hand specialist on Friday who was “pleasantly surprised” at how quickly the 32-year-old third baseman was healing. He’ll continue to wear a splint for another week or so before slowly ramping up baseball activities again. It sounds like he’ll miss the remainder of June and should be ready to return in early July barring any setbacks.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #33
Diamondbacks’ manager Torey Lovullo told reporters on Friday that A.J. Puk’s (elbow) throwing program has been paused and the right-hander will visit Dr. Neal ElAttrache.
Ugh. That’s never what you want to hear. The Diamondbacks already lost their bullpen ace Justin Martinez to Tommy John surgery and now it sounds like Puk could be following the same path. Expect an update on the 30-year-old southpaw’s status after that visit.
  • STL Left Fielder #33
Brendan Donovan (toe) remained out of the Cardinals’ starting lineup for Friday night’s tilt against the Brewers.
It’s the third straight game that the versatile 28-year-old has missed due to a sprained capsule in the joint of his left big toe. Donovan is wearing a carbon fiber orthotic to help lessen the pressure on his toe and he was able to take batting practice on Friday. He’ll repeat the process again on Saturday, after which a determination may be made on his status. It’s possible he misses the entire weekend series so fantasy managers shouldn’t be relying on him if they have viable alternatives.
  • HOU 3rd Baseman #15
Isaac Paredes (hamstring) is not in the Astros’ starting lineup for Friday night’s contest against the Twins.
While the 26-year-old slugger felt much improved after coming in on Friday, the team is still having him undergo a precautionary MRI exam to determine the severity of his hamstring injury. It sounds like there should be some clarity on his status — and how much time (if any) he stands to miss — before Saturday’s game.
