Rhett Lowder is currently limited to begin camp with right elbow soreness.
Lowder has already undergone an MRI, and it revealed no structural issues. The 22-year-old right-hander is one of the best pitching prospects in baseball, and was outstanding in his six starts with the Reds at the end of 2024 with a 1.17 ERA over 30 2/3 innings. It’s a situation to monitor for those who are considering a draft pick on Lowder for the 2025 campaign.

Jung Hoo Lee is playing in Sunday’s exhibition game after the Giants’ Triple-A affiliate.
Lee missed eight days with a back problem. Barring a setback, he figures to hit third for the Giants on Opening Day.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #41
Joe Ryan pitched 4 2/3 innings of one-run ball Sunday as the Twins topped the Red Sox 9-3.
No Statcast today or radar gun readings on TV, so we’re not sure if Ryan’s velocity bounced back from last time out, when he was down 2.5-3 mph form 2024. He was effective in allowing just three singles and striking out four. If his arm is sound, he could be one of the AL’s best pitchers this season.
  • MIN Second Baseman #47
Edouard Julien doubled in a run as the Twins’ DH against the Red Sox on Sunday.
It seems like only a couple of weeks ago we were wondering how the Twins would find at-bats for Julien and Jose Miranda. Now they’ll get all of the playing time they can handle with Royce Lewis and Brooks Lee on the IL. Julien still should take a seat versus lefties, but he’ll be at second base or DH the rest of the time.
  • BOS Third Baseman #11
Rafael Devers went 2-for-3 with an RBI against the Twins on Sunday.
Devers is 3-for-14 while serving only as a DH to date. The Red Sox will be content with a slow April here as Devers overcomes his late start this spring and becomes more comfortable DHing. Assuming that happens. It’s not exactly a given.
  • TB Catcher #19
The Rays are hoping Danny Jansen can play in Wednesday’s intrasquad game ahead of Opening Day on Friday.
Jansen has been out since Wednesday with a mild intercostal strain. Ben Rortvedt would start Friday if Jansen isn’t ready to go, but the team might also have to adjust and add a third catcher, presumably Logan Driscoll, to the roster.
  • TB Designated Hitter #74
Rays reassigned OF Eloy Jiménez, INF Coco Montes, RHP Connor Seabold, INF Jamie Westbrook, C Tres Barrera, INF Tanner Murray, C Ricardo Genovés, INF Bob Seymour and OF Tristan Peters to minor league camp.
No real surprises here since Jiménez was informed earlier this week that he wasn’t going to make Tampa Bay’s season-opening roster over former top prospect Curtis Mead.
  • MIN Catcher #11
Mickey Gasper homered in his lone at-bat Sunday before leaving the game with an ankle laceration.
Gasper, who was spiked in a collision while playing second base today, needed six stitches after departing. He’s supposed to be in line for a spot on the Twins bench, and it’d be disappointing if this takes him out of the mix.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #7
Blake Snell will start Thursday’s stateside opener for the Dodgers against the Tigers.
Snell and Detroit ace Tarik Skubal will square off at Dodger Stadium in a must-see matchup starring two of the best southpaws in baseball. The 32-year-old lefty, who signed a five-year, $182 million offseason deal to join Los Angeles’ star-studded rotation, will be making his official Dodgers debut after tossing a couple innings last week in an exhibition contest overseas at the Tokyo Dome.
  • ATL Starting Pitcher #55
Braves optioned RHP Bryce Elder to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Elder tossed three scoreless innings on Saturday against the Tigers, but it wasn’t enough to land him a spot on Atlanta’s season-opening roster. The 25-year-old will head back to the minors for now, but figures to get the call when the Braves need some relief depth or an emergency starter.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #64
Giants optioned RHP Sean Hjelle to Triple-A Sacramento.
It’s another indication that spring standout Landen Roupp is going to make San Francisco’s season-opening roster since he projects to take over Hjelle’s long relief workload. The towering 27-year-old made a career-high 58 appearances last year for the Giants and figures to be back in the majors at some point in the near future.
