Brewers signed LHP Tyler Jay to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The Brewers designated Jay for assignment at the beginning of January and he was claimed off of waivers by the Mariners. However, the Mariners added reliever Will Klein a couple of weeks later and designated Jay for assignment themselves. The 30-year-old is now back with Milwaukee after posting a 4.70 ERA, 1.96 WHIP, and a 6/6 K/BB ratio over 7 2/3 innings in five appearances between the Mets and Brewers. He also had a 3.02 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 56 2/3 Triple-A innings between the Mets and Brewers, so he should be solid organizational depth.

Marlins manager Clayton McCullough told reporters Edward Cabrera (blister) will start a minor league rehab assignment in the coming days.
McCullough added that Cabrera threw on Saturday and will get back into game action at some point in the coming days. The 26-year-old righty landed on the injured list earlier this week with a blister on his right middle finger. Barring an unexpected setback, he should be ready to rejoin Miami’s rotation by mid-to-late April.
  • TB Third Baseman #25
Curtis Mead is absent from the lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Rockies.
Tampa Bay will roll with veteran Yandy Díaz in the leadoff spot with Jonathan Aranda at first base and occupying the cleanup spot. Mead went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts during Friday’s season opener. He’ll continue to split playing time between several infield spots for Tampa Bay after a sizzling-hot spring performance propelled him onto the club’s season-opening roster.
  • BAL Right Fielder #9
Tyler O’Neill is not in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Blue Jays.
O’Neill heads to the bench on Saturday afternoon with top prospect Heston Kjerstad getting his first start of the season against future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer, who is making his Toronto debut. The 29-year-old slugger got on-base five times on Opening Day and is 3-for-6 with a homer and four RBI through two games.
  • BAL First Baseman #6
Ryan Mountcastle is not in the lineup for Saturday’s contest against the Blue Jays.
Mountcastle takes a seat on Saturday afternoon against Toronto starter Max Scherzer with Ryan O’Hearn at first base and Adley Rutschman getting a turn at DH. It’ll be Gary Sánchez handling the catching duties. The 28-year-old slugger has gone 1-for-9 at the dish through two games to open the year.
  • CIN Catcher #37
Tyler Stephenson (oblique) will undergo a follow-up MRI on April 7.
Stephenson suffered a low-grade oblique strain back in mid-March. There should be a clearer estimate for his return timeline following his next round of imaging. Barring something unexpected, he should return to Cincinnati’s lineup by the end of April.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #25
Rhett Lowder (elbow) has progressed to throwing bullpen sessions.
Lowder was shut down from throwing last month with right elbow soreness, so it’s an encouraging sign that he’s making progress with his throwing program. It’s possible he’ll be an option for Cincinnati at some point in late April or early May, but the organization isn’t going to rush him back.
  • CWS Third Baseman #20
Miguel Vargas is leading off on Saturday against the Angels.
Vargas finds himself in the leadoff spot for the second straight contest, this time against right-hander José Soriano, after going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI on Opening Day against lefty Yusei Kikuchi. The 25-year-old was a top prospect with the Dodgers a couple years ago, but has struggled to establish himself at the highest level. It seems like the White Sox are going to give him every opportunity to sink or swim in the big leagues. Given his talent, and newfound opportunity atop Chicago’s lineup, he’s at least worthy of a speculative roster spot in deeper mixed leagues.
  • WSH Second Baseman #2
Luis García Jr. is not in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Phillies.
García takes a seat with tough southpaw Jesús Luzardo toeing the rubber for Philadelphia. It’ll be veteran Amed Rosario drawing into the lineup in his place. The 24-year-old second baseman batted third in Thursday’s season opener, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and one stolen base.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #54
Brandon Little is day-to-day with a left lat cramp.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters Little might even be available to pitch this weekend after exiting Friday’s relief appearance against the Orioles with a lat cramp. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern moving forward.
  • SF Center Fielder #17
Heliot Ramos is in left field and leading off on Saturday against the Reds.
Ramos finds himself in the leadoff spot against left-hander Nick Lodolo after batting fifth on Opening Day against righty Hunter Greene. The latest lineup card from Giants manager Bob Melvin confirms the widely-held assumption that the 25-year-old would lead off against southpaws. He’s a top-50 range outfielder for fantasy purposes at the moment.
