Dodgers designated RHP Ryan Brasier for assignment.
The Dodgers’ 40-man roster is so loaded that they had to make a very difficult decision on who to remove to free up a spot for Kirby Yates and unfortunately this time it was Brasier left on the outside looking in. The 37-year-old hurler should attract plenty of attention on waivers after registering a 3.54 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and a 25/5 K/BB ratio over 28 innings with the Dodgers in 2024.

Jalen Brunson (ankle) and Miles McBride (groin) practiced Friday.
Brunson hasn’t played in nearly a month, and Deuce has missed seven straight. If one or both are able to take the court on Saturday, Delon Wright and Tyler Kolek could see their minutes reduced. The same is true of Cam Payne, who has missed four straight but returned to practice on Friday alongside Brunson and McBride.
  • SEA Relief Pitcher #89
Mariners purchased the contract of Luis F. Castillo from Triple-A Tacoma.
It’ll be the first time that players with the same first and last name start back-to-back games since the Bobby Jones’ combo for the Rockies in 1993. Castillo is expected to just make a spot start for Seattle, and his inability to miss bats makes him a less-than-spectacular streaming option for Friday’s tilt against the Giants.
  • SEA Relief Pitcher #65
Mariners designated RHP Hagen Danner for assignment.
The Mariners need room on the 40-man roster to select the contract of Luis Castillo. No, not that one. Danner will hit the waiver wire and could be claimed by a pitching-needy club.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #50
Erik Swanson (elbow) will throw a bullpen Friday.
Swanson will likely need to throw several bullpens before he can begin a rehab assignment. It would be a surprise if the 31-year-old was back in the Toronto bullpen before the end of April.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #31
Max Scherzer (thumb) won’t play catch on Friday.
Scherzer’s ability to throw is a “day-to-day thing,” according to Blue Jays manager John Schneider. He received a cortisone shot Tuesday, and the future Hall of Famer has nothing close to a definitive timetable for a potential return.
  • ATL Starting Pitcher #99
Spencer Strider (elbow) is making another rehab start for Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday.
Strider was solid in his rehab outing on Saturday. The 26-year-old was able to throw 60 pitches in that contest, and assuming he goes deeper this time around, his next start could be with Atlanta.
  • CHC Second Baseman #17
Vidal Bruján is struggling to overcome the right elbow sprain that got him put on the injured list after the Cubs returned from Japan.
Bruján came off the bench in one game in Tokyo before landing on the injured list. He’s still having trouble throwing and is probably weeks away from returning.
  • PIT Designated Hitter #22
With Bryan Reynolds limited to DH duties by triceps soreness, Andrew McCutchen is making his first start of the year in the outfield on Friday.
Right field, specifically. Because Reynolds is trying to play through the injury, McCutchen, who is quite the liability in the outfield these days, was out of the lineup for Pittsburgh’s previous three games. It might be best for everyone if Reynolds just took a seat and tried to heal up, since he hasn’t helped while slugging .226 in 33 plate appearances.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #54
Lucas Giolito will make his second rehab start for Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday.
Giolito, coming back from a hamstring strain, is expected to make at least one more rehab start after next Tuesday’s outing. He threw 51 pitches in 2 1/3 scoreless innings in his first rehab start this week.
  • BOS Catcher #12
Connor Wong, out of the Red Sox lineup for a second straight game on Friday, will play Saturday and Sunday, manager Alex Cora said.
Wong isn’t hurt, apparently. Carlos Narváez is starting at catcher in his place again today.
