Braves signed OF Jurickson Profar to a three-year, $42 million contract.
Profar will earn $12 million for the 2025 season and $15 million in each of the next two years. The 31-year-old outfielder will step in as the Braves’ regular left fielder, joining Michael Harris and Ronald Acuna Jr. to form one of the most dynamic outfields in all of baseball. His arrival (and Acuna’s return) will drastically cut into the playing time for both Jarred Kelenic and Bryan De La Cruz. Profar was one of the biggest surprises of the 2024 fantasy baseball season and he could reach new heights in 2025 with a stronger supporting cast around him.

Reds’ skipper Terry Francona told reporters on Thursday that Spencer Steer (shoulder) will resume throwing soon.
The versatile 27-year-old slugger battled shoulder woes down the stretch during the 2024 season so it’s highly discouraging to hear that he’s having the same issues after an entire offseason. The Reds plan to get Steer into Cactus League action as the designated hitter before he’s ready to play in the field as a way to protect his shoulder. For now, it sounds like he should be ready for the start of the regular season, but it’s definitely a situation that fantasy managers should be closely monitoring.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #41
Reds’ manager Terry Francona told reporters on Thursday that Andrew Abbott (shoulder) has been progressing nicely.
Francona elaborated, “He’s on a good progression. We wanted to do it correctly. I hope we’ll be rewarded for doing it correctly. I think he feels pretty good about it too.” It’s unclear whether or not the 25-year-old southpaw will be ready to be a part of the team’s Opening Day rotation, but it doesn’t sound like he’ll be shelved for long if he does ultimately start the season on the injured list.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #72
Javier Assad (oblique) has resumed playing catch according to Cubs’ manager Craig Counsell.
The 27-year-old right-hander was slowed early in camp due to a mild oblique strain, but it sounds like he’s ready to start building back up. There’s still plenty of time for him to get ready in time for Opening Day, but fantasy managers should pay close attention to how quickly he is built up. Any further setbacks would likely result in Assad opening the season on the injured list.
  • CHC Right Fielder #17
Cubs’ skipper Craig Counsell said Thursday that Owen Caissie has been shut down due to tightness in his left groin.
The 22-year-old is already recovering from core muscle surgery that he underwent over the off-season, so this setback will delay him even further. Caissie was always an extreme longshot to crack the Cubs’ Opening Day roster, but now it’s a near certainty that he’ll open the season in the minor leagues.
  • CHC Third Baseman #84
Cubs’ manager Craig Counsell told reporters on Thursday that Matt Shaw (oblique) has resumed throwing and hitting in the batting cage.
Counsell went as far as to say that the 23-year-old infielder was “doing great”. It wouldn’t be surprising at all to see him hitting on the field before the weekend is through. While fantasy managers were right to worry after he sustained a minor oblique injury earlier in the week, it doesn’t sound like it’s going to impact his chances of opening the season as the Cubs’ starting third baseman — and being an impact fantasy player.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #63
According to Mike Mayer of Metsmerized, right-hander Bryce Montes de Oca underwent Tommy John surgery in September.
The 28-year-old hurler was working his way back from his first Tommy John surgery —- that he underwent in March of 2023. Ultimately, he had a setback and was shut down late in the minor league season and now we get the unfortunate news that he went under the knife once more. He’ll miss the entire 2025 season while recovering.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #44
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the Pirates and free agent southpaw Andrew Heaney have agreed to a one-year, $5 million contract.
The deal is still pending a physical. The 33-year-old southpaw stayed healthy for the duration of the 2024 season and made 32 appearances (31 starts) for the Rangers, registering a 5-14 record, 4.28 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and a 159/41 K/BB ratio across 160 frames. He should have a spot in the Pirates’ Opening Day rotation and could be a viable late-round rotation option in deeper mixed leagues.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #35
Blue Jays signed LHP Ryan Yarbrough to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The 33-year-old southpaw will fight for a spot on the Jays’ Opening Day roster — most likely in a swingman or long relief role. Yarbrough made 44 appearances between the Jays and Dodgers in 2024 where he compiled a 3.19 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and a 65/32 K/BB ratio across 98 2/3 innings. Unfortunately for fantasy managers, unless he finds his way into the starting rotation, his fantasy contributions will be minimal.
  • CHC Third Baseman #61
Gage Workman went 2-for-3 and belted a two-run home run on Thursday, powering the Cubs to a 12-4 victory over the Dodgers in their Cactus League opener.
Workman smacked a two-out single off of Dodgers’ right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the second inning. After going down on strikes in the third inning, the 25-year-old slugger then pulverized a two-run shot off of Justin Wrobleski in the fifth inning that extended the Cubs’ advantage to 8-3. Workman — a Rule 5 pick from the Tigers — has to stay on the Cubs’ big league roster for the entire season or be offered back to his former club. The hope is that he’ll hit enough to function in a utility role, but if Thursday’s performance was any indication, perhaps he has even more than that in store.
  • LAD Left Fielder #8
Eddie Rosario started his Dodgers’ tenure off with a bang, crushing a two-run homer in his first at-bat during Thursday’s Cactus League loss to the Cubs.
The 33-year-old slugger got the scoring started in the contest with his two-run blast off of Cody Poteet in the second inning. Rosario went down on strikes in his only other at-bat, finishing the afternoon 1-for-2. He’s going to need to tear the cover off the ball in Cactus League action in order to crack a loaded Opening Day roster, so this was at least a nice step in the right direction for Rosario on Thursday.
