The Red Sox are signing Aroldis Chapman to a one-year, $10.75 million contract, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Chapman gets $250,000 more than he did from the Pirates last year, even though he was rather mediocre in finishing with a 3.79 ERA. He remained one of baseball’s hardest throwers at age 36, and he still managed an elite 37% strikeout rate last season. However, he doesn’t make it easy when he’s walking two batters every three innings. The Red Sox will likely put him in a setup role, but he could always be a candidate for saves if the need arises.

Colt Emerson went 0-for-3 with a walk on Wednesday in a win over the White Sox.
Emerson struck out in two of his three at-bats out of the eighth spot in the lineup and also committed a throwing error at shortstop. The 20-year-old prodigy has gone 1-for-11 with one homer and three RBI in four games since being called up from Triple-A Tacoma. There are plenty of reasons to envision Emerson as a legitimate franchise cornerstone for Seattle, if he continues his present trajectory, but it might be unrealistic to expect him to blossom into an immediate fantasy star, especially since he’s been working his way back from a wrist issue that he dealt with last month.
Stash Tigers' Melton ahead of return from IL
With "intriguing" upside in several categories, Troy Melton is shaping up to be a priority stash in fantasy ahead of his activation from the Tigers' injured list.

Jose A. Ferrer struck out three in a scoreless ninth inning on Wednesday against the White Sox to record his third save of the season.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #26
Emerson Hancock gave up two runs over five innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the White Sox.
  • CWS Starting Pitcher #59
Sean Burke allowed two runs over 4 2/3 innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Mariners.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher
Thomas White isn’t starting on Friday against the Mets, or any time soon, according to Isaac Azout of FishOnFirst.
There’s nothing official from the Marlins on their rotation plans for their upcoming three-game series against New York after White was scratched from his scheduled start for Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday. The 21-year-old top pitching prospect is hardly a finished product, especially from a command standpoint, but he has the stuff to pitch in the majors at some point in the near future. He’s worthy of a speculative stash in all fantasy leagues on the chance that he’s up relatively soon, but it sounds like he may have to wait a bit longer for his opportunity.
  • AZ 2nd Baseman #4
Ketel Marte went 3-for-3 with a homer, a double, walk, two RBI, and three runs scored as the Diamondbacks beat the Giants 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon.
Marte has been sizzling at the plate lately, with Wednesday’s performance marking his fourth multi-hit game in his past six contests. He hasn’t been his usual self this year, with his walk rate in particular dropping meaningfully. With a track record like Marte’s, it’s usually only a matter of time until positive regression hits.
  • AZ Starting Pitcher #29
Merrill Kelly improved to 4-3 on Wednesday against the Giants, allowing three runs on eight hits over six innings pitched.
Kelly struck out four and didn’t walk anyone as Arizona went on to sweep San Francisco in three games. The veteran righty allowed a whopping 19 earned runs over a three-start sample earlier this year, but he’s pitched much better over his past three contests, which include a complete game at Coors Field. He’ll look to continue mixing and matching with his six-pitch arsenal in his next outing, a repeat matchup against the Giants, but this time in San Francisco.
  • AZ Relief Pitcher #38
Paul Sewald struck out one in a scoreless ninth to earn his 11th save as the Diamondbacks beat the Giants 6-3 on Wednesday.
Sewald needed just 13 pitches to finish the outing, preserving the sweep for Arizona. He now has 11 of the team’s 13 saves on the year, but they’ve come with a 4.15 ERA given his near-nonexistent ground-ball rate. The 35-year-old closer is still running his highest strikeout rate since 2023, however, and his WHIP remains under 1. Juan Morillo is having an excellent season himself, should the Diamondbacks look elsewhere for ninth-inning opportunities at any point this season. Meanwhile, AJ Puk (elbow) faced hitters for the first time on Tuesday and should be back mid-summer. One would figure Sewald will hold onto the closer role as long as he continues pitching this well.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #54
Tyler Mahle took the loss on Wednesday in Arizona, allowing six earned runs on eight hits over five innings pitched.
Mahle struck out six and didn’t walk anyone, but he couldn’t limit the batted-ball damage, which included a two-run homer off the bat of Ketel Marte. His ERA is up to 6.10 on the year. Mahle has been throwing a cutter more this season, but it’s been hit hard thus far. He’ll look to change his fortune in a repeat matchup against Arizona next time out.
  • AZ Shortstop #2
Geraldo Perdomo went 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI as the Diamondbacks took down the Giants 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon.
Perdomo’s double drove in two and extended Arizona’s lead to 6-3 in the fifth. He’s once again walking more than striking out, but he hasn’t matched last year’s power output, with his barrel rate falling back to 2024 levels. He has two homers and seven steals so far this season, but he remains locked into the three-hole in the D’Backs’ lineup.
