The 19-year-old outfielder was the Marlins’ first-round draft choice (16th overall) from the 2024 draft. It sounds like everything went well with the procedure and Morlando should be back on the field before the end of May. While it will delay his development a bit during the 2025 season, the future still looks incredibly bright for Morlando.

The 30-year-old southpaw had inked a minor league deal with the Rays back in December. It’s likely that he was informed he was not going to make the team’s Opening Day bullpen so this gives him a chance to explore other opportunities elsewhere. Brentz posted a 6.23 ERA, 2.31 WHIP and a 3/7 K/BB ratio over 4 1/3 innings in five Grapefruit League appearances this spring.

Canha did his damage off of Jordan Leasure in the opening frame, crushing (104.9 mph EV) a two-run shot that gave the Brewers an early edge that they would never relinquish. He also grounded out to second base and lined out to right field, finishing the afternoon 1-for-3. The 36-year-old is off to a slow start on the spring, hitting just .167 (2-for-12).

Durbin drew a walk off of James Karinchak to open the fifth inning, then swiped second and third base before scoring on a line out off the bat of Jackson Chourio. The 25-year-old infielder then plated a run of his own with a ground out in the sixth inning that made it a 6-3 ballgame. He’s fitting right in with the Brewers’ theme of aggressiveness on the basepaths, with four stolen bases to his name this spring. Unfortunately, he’s hitting just .161 (5-for-31) with a pair of long balls and three RBI.

Mitchell ambushed the first pitch that he saw from Elvis Peguero, crushing a solo home run to open the third inning. That would be his only hit in three at-bats on the day. He’s off to a rough start overall on the spring, hitting just .227 (5-for-22) with a homer, three RBI and a stolen base. With Andrew Benintendi shelved, the door is open for Mitchell to potentially crack the Opening Day roster, but he’s going to need to pick it up in Cactus League action.

The 29-year-old right-hander has struggled badly with his command this spring, and that was on full display in Thursday’s outing. He came on to start the fifth inning and walked each of the first three hitters that he faced — while also allowing three stolen bases. Jackson Chourio then lined into a sacrifice fly to plate a run. Karinchak battled back to get each of the next two hitters (while allowing his fourth stolen base), but on the whole it was an absolutely brutal outing. He now carries an uninspiring 7.20 ERA, 2.00 WHIP and a 6/5 K/BB ratio over five frames on the spring.

The 28-year-old backstop smacked a two-run double as part of an 11-run uprising by the Athletics in the ninth inning of this one. If the Athletics opt against Tyler Soderstrom serving as the primary backup behind Shea Langeliers to begin the season, then Pereda could wind up with a bench spot on the team’s Opening Day roster. He’s hitting .304 (7-for-23) with a homer and five RBI so far on the spring.

Sears walked one and struck out three opposing batters in the ballgame. He kept the Reds off the board through the first five innings, but the Reds scratched out a run while chasing him in the sixth. There, Jake Fraley led off with a single, swiped second base and scored on a one-out knock off the bat of Jeimer Candelario. Sears got eight whiffs on 69 pitches on the afternoon, posting a CSW of 28 percent. He now boasts a 2.70 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and an 11/5 K/BB ratio over 13 1/3 innings through his first four Cactus League starts.

Candelario actually opened the scoring in the ballgame with his RBI single off of JP Sears in the sixth inning. That would wind up being the extent of the Reds’ offense in the game though. The switch-hitting 31-year-old infielder is hitting .250 (6-for-24) with a homer and seven RBI thus far in Cactus League action.

Lodolo allowed just three hits and one walk on the afternoon. The 27-year-old left-hander generated 11 swings and misses on 66 offerings in the ballgame — five of those on his curveball — while posting a strong CSW of 32 percent. He has likely done enough to earn a spot in the club’s Opening Day rotation this spring, posting a 3.12 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and a 9/5 K/BB ratio over 8 2/3 innings. For fantasy purposes, Lodolo is worthy of a late-round dart through due to his upside in strikeouts.
