    Rockies non-tendered RHP Cal Quantrill.
The Rockies traded for Quantrill a year ago and paid him $6.55 million coming off an awful season with the Guardians. He wound up justifying the salary in in going 8-11 with a 4.98 ERA, making him only a bit below average for as a Coors Field pitcher. Still, the team wasn’t going to pay $8 million-$10 million to keep him around for 2025. Perhaps he could return at a lesser price.
  • BAL Catcher #72

Orioles C/1B prospect Samuel Basallo (oblique) has begun a hitting progression.
Basallo suffered an oblique injury last week. It was thought to be minor at the time, and it appears that it actually is. He is likely to return to Triple-A Norfolk this weekend. The 20-year-old is pushing hard for an MLB call-up, but there is no spot for him behind the plate, and the Orioles have played him at DH and first base as much as they have at catcher while he’s been at Triple-A. Perhaps Basallo could get called up to fill the first base and DH roles after the trade deadline if players like Ryan O’Hearn are no longer in Baltimore.
Robertson worth a stash in return to Phillies
Eric Samulski details what to expect from David Robertson in his return to the Philadelphia Phillies and why he should be in-play for saves for those looking to stash the veteran.
  • SF Right Fielder #59
Jerar Encarnacion (oblique) had his rehab assignment transferred from the Arizona Complex League to Triple-A Sacramento.
Encarnacion was placed on the IL on June 17 after going just 3-for-22 in eight games following a return from wrist surgery. He now no longer has a designated hitter spot with Rafael Devers in town, but Encarnacion was working out at first base during his first rehab assignment, so that could perhaps be a path to get him into the lineup for the Giants.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #72
Javier Assad (oblique) will make a rehab start in the Arizona Complex League on Thursday.
Assad injured his oblique in spring training and then sustained a Grade 2 oblique strain in his April 22 outing while rehabbing with Triple-A Iowa. He is now ready to start up his second rehab assignment in the hopes of helping bolster the Cubs’ rotation down the stretch.
  • WSH Right Fielder #3
Dylan Crews (oblique) ramped up his baseball activity over the weekend and continues his progression towards a rehab assignment.
The 23-year-old took ground balls, fly balls, played catch, hit off the tee, hit batting practice, and ran the bases over the weekend without issue. All signs seem to point to him beginning a rehab assignment as soon as this week and maybe returning to the Nationals’ lineup in mid-August.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #76
Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said that RHP prospect Andrew Painter “isn’t guaranteed a spot in a rotation at any point.”
The Phillies have made it clear that Painter is “untouchable” in trade talks, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to join the Phillies’ rotation in the second half. “We’ve always said July-ish that he’d be ready to join the rotation, not that he was going to join the rotation,” Dombrowski said. “He isn’t guaranteed a spot in a rotation at any point. He’s never been told that he is. We’ll just play it by ear, see how he’s throwing, how our club fits together.” Right now, Painter has a 5.01 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and 8.2 percent walk rate in 12 starts at Triple-A, so he doesn’t appear to be an immediate threat to get starts for the Phillies without an injury.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #50
Bryce Miller (elbow) could begin a rehab assignment on Friday.
The 26-year-old threw a live bullpen on Saturday, and the team is now deciding whether his next step will be a live batting practice session or a rehab start on Friday with a minor league affiliate. Miller’s velocity has been good in his bullpen sessions, but we also know that he’s dealing with an elbow injury that he believes will require surgery in the off-season. Even if he does make it back on the mound for the Mariners, which feels like it will happen in early August, there’s no way to know how effective he’ll be.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #68
J.P. France (shoulder) threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings in the Florida Complex League on Monday.
The right-hander allowed two hits and walked one but struck out two in his first outing of the season. France has been out since last June with a shoulder injury that required surgery, so it’s nice to see him simply healthy and on the mound in a competitive game. He will likely move his rehab up to a higher level of the organization, but could need as many as four more starts before he becomes an option for the Astros.
  • CLE Center Fielder #8
Lane Thomas (plantar fasciitis) is progressing “a little slower” than the team thought, according to Guardians manager Stephen Vogt.
Thomas landed on the IL on July 6, which was the second time that plantar fasciitis has put him on the injured list this season. He received an injection during the All-Star break and is doing baseball activities, but he doesn’t appear close to a rehab assignment at this time.
  • PHI Center Fielder #91
Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said the team has considered calling up OF prospect Justin Crawford.
“We just haven’t had the right time to do it yet, but he’s a person that’s always in our minds,” said Dombrowski. The 21-year-old outfielder is hitting .325/.406/.424 in 76 games at Triple-A with two home runs, 56 runs scored, and 29 RBI. The big sticking point when it comes to calling him up appears to be playing time. “If we had to bring them up, or we decide to bring him up, it’s not like he can’t contribute by any means. But it really comes down to, if he’s going to come here, we need him to be able to play the majority of the time.” With Max Kepler struggling in left field, the Phillies are in the market for an outfielder at the trade deadline. It sounds like, if they are not able to acquire one, Crawford could be an option to start games at the big league level.
  • STL Right Fielder #41
Alec Burleson said X-rays came back negative after he fouled a ball off his right foot Monday.
Burleson wasn’t sure about his status for Tuesday. If Burleson can’t go, the Cardinals could shift Brendan Donovan to the outfield and use Thomas Saggese at second base.
