Blue Jays avoided arbitration with RHP Erik Swanson by agreeing to a one-year contract.
No word on the financials of this one yet, but Swanson was projected by MLBTradeRumors.com to earn $3.2 million via arbitration so expect that the figure will land somewhere in that range. The 31-year-old hurler took a step backwards after two brilliant seasons in 2022 and 2023, posting an underwhelming 5.03 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 37/14 K/BB ratio over 39 1/3 innings in 45 appearances with the Jays. With Jordan Romano getting non-tendered on Friday, the door is open for Swanson to ascend to a high-leverage role if he starts out the season strong in 2025.

Pinch-hitter Yohel Pozo delivered a three-run homer in the top of the eighth to help the Cardinals top the Cubs 8-6 on Saturday.
The Cardinals scored five times off Brad Keller in the eighth, with Pozo delivering the big blow after hitting for Pedro Pagés. Pozo is batting .329/.333/.506 with three homers in 81 plate appearances since being called up Apr. 7. The Cardinals love Pagés’ defense too much to make a switch behind the plate, but at least they’ve been willing to make the late-game change when they need offense.
Hold Muncy if placed on injured list
Eric Samulski advises fantasy managers to "hold" Max Muncy if placed on the injured list, who has produced in a big way since the beginning of May, and discusses the outlook for Dodgers' call-up Esteury Ruiz.
  • STL Relief Pitcher #52
Matthew Liberatore pitched five innings of two-run ball Saturday against the Cubs.
Liberatore walked four, but he mostly got away with it, as just two of the 15 balls in play against him were hard-hit. One of those was a wind-aided homer from Michael Busch. Liberatore has allowed a total of six runs over his last four starts, lowering his ERA from 4.17 to 3.70. He’ll likely face the Braves on Friday.
  • STL Relief Pitcher #56
Ryan Helsley tossed a perfect ninth against the Cubs for his 17th save Saturday.
Helsley has turned in five straight scoreless appearances since opening June with three blown saves and runs allowed in four consecutive outings. He got two flyouts and then a game-ending strikeout of Michael Busch today.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #77
Chris Flexen allowed one run in 3 2/3 innings as a bulk guy Saturday against the Cardinals.
Flexen had to enter the game in the first after opener Drew Pomeranz loaded the bases with just one out. He immediately gave up a two-run single, but he finished the frame without further the damage. The lone run charged to Flexen came on Nolan Gorman’s homer in the fourth. The Cubs will need a fifth starter once more before the break, probably Thursday against the Twins or Friday in the Yankees. Flexen could start or again work as a bulk guy, but Jordan Wicks is also a candidate to get the nod.
  • STL Right Fielder #41
Alec Burleson went 3-for-5 and hit his 11th homer Saturday against the Cubs.
The homer came off Brad Keller in the eighth. Burleson isn’t getting as many singles as usual lately, but he has six homers and 17 RBI in his last 17 games. Fantasy leaguers surely approve. Burleson is slugging .472 this season, up from .390 as a rookie in 2023 and .420 last season.
  • CHC 1st Baseman #29
Making a rare start against a lefty, Michael Busch went 3-for-5 and hit another homer Saturday against the Cardinals.
Busch has seven hits, including four homers, the last two days. His homer today was the first by a lefty off Matthew Liberatore this season. Busch is typically platooned with Justin Turner, and he came into the day just 6-for-43 against lefties this season, but yesterday’s massive game kept him in the lineup for this one. He’s up to sixth in the majors with a .939 OPS, and it’s going to be very difficult to keep him off the NL All-Star team,
  • SD Shortstop #2
Xander Bogaerts (hamstring) is hitting fifth and playing shortstop against the Rangers.
Bogaerts was removed from Friday’s game with a hamstring injury, but the 32-year-old is feeling well enough to play up the middle and hit in the middle of the San Diego lineup.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #81
Dodgers recalled RHP Jack Little from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Little will be up to provide some bullpen help after Noah Davis gave up 10 runs in his relief appearance Friday. He’ll be a multi-inning option, but with no chance of helping fantasy clubs in this stint.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #56
Dodgers optioned RHP Noah Davis to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Davis allowed 10 runs in 1 1/3 innings during Friday’s embarrassing loss to the Astros. The right-hander will head to OKC with Jack Little rejoining Los Angeles in the corresponding move.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #54
Astros signed RHP Héctor Neris to a one-year contract.
Neris returns for his third stint with the Astros during his lengthy career, which spans back to 2014. The 36-year-old will likely operate in middle relief spots for Houston. He was cut loose earlier this week by the division-rival Angels after struggling in 21 appearances.
