It’s unlikely that he garners enough playing time down the stretch to gain relevancy for fantasy purposes.

Phillies recalled C Garrett Stubbs from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Rather than try Justin Crawford or give Johan Rojas or Otto Kemp another shot, the Phillies are just bringing up a third catcher. Stubbs, who served as J.T. Realmuto’s backup from 2022-24 before being replaced by Rafael Marchán this year, hit .265/.352/.402 for Lehigh Valley. The Phillies’ other opening today was filled by waiver claim Tim Mayza.

SF Starting Pitcher #34

Giants selected the contract of RHP JT Brubaker from Triple-A Sacramento.

The Giants signed the 31-year-old hurler in mid-August after he was released by the Yankees. Brubaker looked sharp in 12 appearances out of the Yankees’ bullpen, posting a 3.38 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and a 10/9 K/BB ratio over 16 frames. He’ll work in middle relief to start but could end up seeing some high-leverage situations over the final month of the season if he continues to perform well.

Giants transferred RHP Randy Rodriguez to the 60-day injured list.

It has been recommended that the 25-year-old hurler undergo Tommy John surgery. He’s taking the weekend to mull it over, but it seems like an inevitability at this point. In the meantime, this roster move gives the Giants flexibility on their 40-man roster to accommodate their September call-ups on Monday.

Cardinals activated CF Victor Scott II from the 10-day injured list.

Scott, out since August 17 with a sprained ankle, went 1-for-8 on a three-game rehab assignment. He’ll likely return to being the Cardinals’ primary center fielder, with Nathan Church heading to the bench. Both are left-handed hitters, so there’s no good way for them to share time.

Blue Jays selected the contract of RHP Dillon Tate from Buffalo.

The Jays are also adding waiver claim Isian Kiner-Falefa to the roster today, so Tate is their only official callup. Tate made five appearances for the Jays in April and May, allowing three runs in 5 1/3 innings. He had a 2.06 ERA and a 34/19 K/BB in 35 innings as a reliever for Buffalo.

Sandlin has been out since July 8 with elbow inflammation, so he’ll be eligible to come off the 60-day IL as soon as Saturday. However, if he is able to make it back, it sounds like it will happen closer to the end of the month.
