    Braves released C Yohel Pozo.
At least, that’s according to MILB’s official transactions page. It’s reporting he was signed to a Triple-A contract on Thursday and then released on Friday. Either the initial signing was simply an error or perhaps the Braves noticed the sexual assault allegations against Pozo from several years back and decided against taking him on. Either way, he’s currently a free agent.

Marcelo Mayer went 3-for-3 with a homer, a triple and three RBI in leading the Red Sox past a Tigers split-squad on Thursday.
Mayer started at third today. He’ll continue to primarily play shortstop in the minors at the beginning of the season, but the Red Sox want him to get familiar with other positions in case his performance demands they call him up (and not because of a Trevor Story injury).
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #68
Quinn Priester pitched two scoreless innings Thursday in his start against the Tigers.
Priester allowed two hits and two walks while facing mostly Tigers regulars, but he was able to escape a bases-loaded jam in the first. Priester was throwing all his secondary pitches harder than last year today, with his slider and curveball climbing by more than two mph. He entered camp as a big long shot to make the Red Sox rotation, but with Brayan Bello and Kutter Crawford iffy for Opening Day, he’d now seem to have a chance.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #9
Jack Flaherty allowed one run in two innings against the Red Sox in his spring debut Thursday.
Flaherty struck out two and walked two. Even though he signed late, his velocity today was right at last season’s averages. His spin rates were down across the board, but that probably doesn’t mean much at this point.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #18
Kenta Maeda gave up three runs in three innings out of the pen Thursday against the Red Sox.
Maeda fanned five and walked none before surrendering three runs in his final inning of work. That probably won’t be held against him overly much. His stock is still up a bit since the beginning of camp.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #35
Clay Holmes limited the Astros to one hit over three innings in the Mets’ 5-0 shutout victory Thursday.
That’s one hit in six scoreless innings for Holmes so far this spring. His sinker velocity is down about two mph as a starter, but he was throwing his slider just as hard today as he did as a reliever. He seems like a good bet for some early season mixed-league value.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #46
Griffin Canning pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings and struck out two against the Astros on Thursday.
Canning is probably in line to open up as the Mets’ fifth starter with Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea bound for the injured list. It’ll be interesting to see if his new team can get more out of him than the Angels did. His arsenal seemed unchanged today, though he was throwing his slider a little harder than usual.
  • NYM Third Baseman #7
Brett Baty hit his second spring homer Thursday against the Astros.
Statcast said it was a 340-footer that would have been a homer in three MLB parks, but it was another very well hit ball from Baty, leaving his bat at 109 mph. He’s now 5-for-9 overall. It’s hard to see how Baty fits on a Mets team that has Pete Alonso and Mark Vientos at the corners. If he crushes it all spring, it might make sense to give him a chance ahead of designated hitter Jesse Winker. Still, that’s not the way the Mets have things drawn up.
  • HOU Left Fielder #44
Yordan Alvarez went 0-for-3 as the Astros’ No. 2 hitter in his spring debut Thursday.
Alvarez did have a couple of well hit balls, including a liner back up the middle that Clay Holmes made a fine play on. It’s hard to say if there was any significance to him batting second today, especially since the Astros weren’t using a lineup of regulars. He hit third more often last season, but with Kyle Tucker and Alex Bregman gone, Alvarez could move up behind Jose Altuve, with Christian Walker, Isaac Paredes and Yainer Diaz following in some order.
  • TB Shortstop
Rays reassigned INF Gregory Barrios to minor league camp.
The 20-year-old infielder was limited early on in camp due to a sore elbow that prevented him from throwing. It’s not expected to be a long-term concern, but he’ll continue rehabbing on the minor league side of things. With this move, the Rays are now down to 73 players remaining in big league camp.
  • BAL Shortstop #2
Orioles’ manager Brandon Hyde said after Thursday’s game that Gunnar Henderson (side) was removed as a precautionary measure.
The 23-year-old superstar was pulled after one inning due to what’s being described as lower right side discomfort that he suffered after landing on his side while catching a line drive off the bat of Bo Bichette. Hyde noted that there is no MRI scheduled and that the club was just being careful with him. He may get another day or two off just to be on the safe side, but it doesn’t look like Henderson is going to require any sort of extended absence.
