Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch reports that the Cardinals are expected to gauge interest in Nolan Arenado on the trade market.
Arenado is still owed $74 million over the next three seasons, and the 33-year-old has seen his numbers decrease since leaving the friendly confines of Coors Field. The Cardinals would likely need to eat a significant amount of salary in order to get a quality return, but teams who need third baseman should have interest as he’s still a strong defender and capable of above-average offensive numbers.

Jacob Melton was removed from Friday’s battle against the Twins due to a right ankle sprain.
Astros’ skipper Joe Espada called it a “pretty good” sprain after the game and noted that they’ll know more after he undergoes testing. Expect the club to provide another update on his status prior to Saturday’s ballgame.
Casparius may get good ratios as Dodgers starter
Eric Samulski analyzes the Dodgers moving Ben Casparius into the starting rotations and what he will bring to fantasy managers in his new role.
  • HOU 3rd Baseman #15
Astros’ manager Joe Espada told reporters on Friday night that Isaac Paredes has a minor left hamstring strain and is expected to avoid the injured list.
It sounds like the 26-year-old slugger is still going to be out for another couple of days, but it shouldn’t be anything long term. For what it’s worth, Paredes told reporters after the game that he feels close to 100 percent and should be considered day-to-day. It sounds like fantasy managers may have dodged a bullet on this one.
  • MIN 3rd Baseman #23
Royce Lewis was removed from Friday night’s contest against the Astros due to a left hamstring strain.
Lewis was lifted for a pinch runner after smacking a single in the ninth inning on Friday night. Twins’ manager Rocco Baldelli told reporters that Lewis tested out well after the game, but he’ll be re-evaluated by the training staff again on Saturday morning before a determination is made on his status. Given his extensive injury history, it wouldn’t be surprising to see this lead to another trip to the injured list. All fantasy managers can do now is wait and hope for the best.
  • ATH 2nd Baseman #17
Luis Urías went 2-for-4 with a solo home run as the Athletics triumphed over the Royals 6-4 on Friday evening in Kansas City.
The 28-year-old infielder tagged Royals’ right-hander Michael Wacha for his 419-foot (104.9 mph EV) solo shot in the fourth inning, extending the A’s lead to 3-1. He also singled with two outs in the second inning but was left stranded there. Urías has done a nice job for the Athletics this season, slashing .247/.340/.406 with seven long balls, 15 RBI and a pair of stolen bases in 200 plate appearances.
  • ATH Catcher #29
Austin Wynns went 1-for-4 and clobbered a solo home run on Friday night, helping to power the Athletics to victory over the Royals.
The 34-year-old backstop connected on his fourth home run of the season — a 399-foot (107.1 mph EV) solo shot off of Michael Wacha in the second inning — tying the game at one run apiece. That would be his lone hit in four at-bats on the night. For the season, he’s slashing a robust .354/.404/.667 with four long balls and 12 RBI in his first 52 plate appearances.
  • ATH Relief Pitcher #19
Mason Miller had a rough outing in the ninth inning against the Royals on Friday night, giving up three runs on one hit and a pair of walks.
Fortunately for Miller and the A’s, he came on with a five-run lead and didn’t wind up suffering a blown save. He got himself into trouble immediately as he issued walks to Salvador Perez and Jac Caglianone to open the inning before allowing a two-run triple to Nick Loftin. John Rave followed with a sacrifice fly before Miller settled in and retired Kyle Isbel on strikes and Drew Waters on a pop out to shortstop to end the ballgame. He hasn’t quite been himself this season, registering a cringe-inducing 5.55 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 24 1/3 innings to go with a strong 41/14 K/BB ratio.
  • ATH Starting Pitcher #40
Luis Severino picked up his second victory of the season on Friday night, limiting the Royals to just one run on six hits over 7 2/3 innings.
Severino walked two batters while recording only one strikeout on the evening. The lone blemish on his day came on a two-out RBI double by Salvador Perez in the opening inning. After that, Severino was in complete command. Remarkably, he got just one swing and miss on 104 pitches in the game, posting a miserable CSW of 19 percent. Yet somehow he mixed and matched his pitches well enough to keep the Royals off-balance and generated weak contact all night. He’ll try to replicate this wizardry when he carries a 4.47 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and a 61/29 K/BB ratio (90 2/3 innings) into Wednesday’s battle against the Astros.
  • KC 3rd Baseman #11
Maikel Garcia went 3-for-4 with a double, stolen base and a run scored as the Royals fell to the Athletics on Friday evening.
Garcia smacked a two-out single off of Luis Severino in the first inning, swiped second base and scored the game’s first run on an RBI double by Salvador Perez. He also singled in the sixth inning and doubled in the eighth, but the Royals failed to cash him in both times. With his three-hit attack, the 25-year-old infielder is now hitting .309/.372/.478 with seven homers, 31 RBI and 14 stolen bases (in 21 attempts) on the season.
  • KC Starting Pitcher #52
Michael Wacha struggled in Friday night’s loss to the Athletics, giving up five runs on nine hits over his 5 1/3 innings of work.
The 33-year-old right-hander also issued a pair of walks on the night while striking out five. He served up a pair of solo home runs in the contest — one to Austin Wynns in the second inning and another to Luis Urias in the fourth. Wacha entrusted two runners to his bullpen when he exited in the sixth inning, and both ultimately came around to score. He got 11 whiffs on 93 pitches on the night — seven on his changeup — while posting a CSW of 26 percent. He’ll bring a respectable 3.38 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and a 60/21 K/BB ratio (80 innings) into Thursday’s matchup against the Rangers in Arlington.
  • HOU 2nd Baseman #27
Jose Altuve went 2-for-4 with a homer, double and three RBI on Friday evening as the Astros routed the Twins 10-3.
Altuve smacked a two-out, two-run double off of Chris Paddack in the second inning that increased the Astros’ early lead to 5-0. He was then cut down attempting to steal third base. Altuve then tagged Paddack for a 342-foot (94.4 mph EV) solo shot to open the fourth inning, making it a 9-1 ballgame. On the season, the 35-year-old outfielder is now hitting .278/.324/.432 with 10 homers, 30 RBI and six swipes.
