Tigers C prospect Josue Briceño homered three times for Scottsdale in the Arizona Fall League on Saturday.
It’s the first three-homer game since 2015 in the AFL. Briceño hit only two homers in 151 at-bats in 2024 with Low-A Lakeland, but he does possess above-average power in his left-handed bat. The 20-year-old is considered one of the top hitting prospects in the Detroit system, and while he’s at least a few years away, there’s enough offensive upside to suggest keeping him on dynasty/keeper radars right now.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #0
Jack Flaherty blanked the Mets for seven innings Sunday in the Dodgers’ 9-0 victory in Game 1 of the NLCS.
Flaherty didn’t excel in his final three regular-season starts or in his loss to the Padres a week ago, but he cruised tonight, even if he did give up nine hard-hit balls. He retired the first nine and the final eight batters he faced. The Mets’ lone real threat should have materialized in the fifth, but after collecting the team’s first hit of the game, Jesse Winker made a huge baserunning blunder on a second consecutive hit off the bat of Jose Iglesias, getting himself thrown out at third with no outs and the Mets down 6-0. Flaherty never allowed another baserunner afterwards. Game 2 will come Tuesday. Sean Manaea is starting for the Mets, while the Dodgers will likely go with a bullpen game after Flaherty’s long outing tonight.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #34
Kodai Senga lasted just 1 1/3 innings and surrendered three runs Sunday to take the loss to the Dodgers in Game 1 of the NLCS.
Senga walked four of the 10 batters he faced, and he was credited with strikes on just 10 of his 30 pitches. His velocity was also off; he averaged 93.5 mph with his fastball, down from 94.3 mph eight days ago and 95.8 mph in 2023. The Mets might start him again in Game 5, but they’ll certainly be very cautious with him then.
  • LAD Designated Hitter #17
Shohei Ohtani singled twice, knocked in a run and walked in Game 1 of the NLCS on Sunday.
Ohtani was caught stealing for the first time in 37 attempts since July 23, but it was a nice night after a bit of a down series against the Padres. He hit a single 116.5 mph, and his other two balls in play also came in at over 102 mph.
  • LAD Second Baseman #9
Gavin Lux left Sunday’s NLCS Game 1 with hip flexor tightness, according to the Dodgers.
If it had to happen, this is at least a decent time for it, as he wasn’t going to start against a lefty in Game 2 and he’ll get another day off before Game 3. Kevin Kiermaier replaced him against the Mets, with Enrique Hernández moving to the infield.
  • NYM Left Fielder #3
Jesse Winker is getting the nod over J.D. Martinez at DH for Game 1 of the NLCS against the Dodgers.
Martinez played against lefties in Games 2 and 4 against the Phillies, but he’s sitting out a fourth straight with a righty opponent. The Mets did make one change tonight, moving Starling Marte up to the fifth and Jose Iglesias down to seventh. The lineup: SS Francisco Lindor, 3B Mark Vientos, LF Brandon Nimmo, 1B Pete Alonso, RF Marte, DH Winker, 2B Iglesias, CF Tyrone Taylor and C Francisco Alvarez.
  • LAD First Baseman #5
Freddie Freeman (ankle) is at first base for Game 1 of the NLCS on Sunday.
The Dodgers are using nearly the same lineup they did Friday against the Padres: DH Shohei Ohtani, RF Mookie Betts, 1B Freeman, LF Teoscar Hernández, C Will Smith, 3B Max Muncy, CF Enrique Hernández, 2B Gavin Lux and SS Tommy Edman. The lone difference is that Smith and Muncy have been flipped.
  • NYM Left Fielder #1
Jeff McNeil (wrist) mad the Mets’ NLCS roster for the series against the Dodgers.
McNeil missed the last month with a fractured left wrist, but he was able to get some at-bats in the Arizona Fall League over the weekend, and now the 32-year-old will get a chance to help the Mets make a World Series. With McNeil healthy, Adam Ottavino is off the roster to make the room.
  • LAD Shortstop #11
Miguel Rojas (groin) is not a part of the NLCS roster for the Dodgers.
Rojas aggravated a previous groin injury he had dealt with in the 2024 campaign, and the Dodgers will not like the 35-year-old take part on the Championship Series. As expected, Alex Vesla (ribs) is also not able to go for the best-of-seven set. Kevin Kiermaier takes Rojas’ place on the roster, with Brent Honeywell the substitution for Vesla.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #55
Carlos Rodón will start Game 1 of the ALCS against the Guardians on Monday.
Rodón will get the nod for the opener and be followed by Gerrit Cole in Game 3. Clarke Schmidt will likely get Game 3 and Luis Gil the fourth contest, but that hasn’t been announced just yet. Rodón struggled at the end of his start against the Royals on Monday, but he’ll get a shot to give the Yankees an early series lead against Cleveland. It’s worth pointing out that the Guardians registered a .751 OPS against left-handed pitching compared to .685 against righties.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #76
Andrew Painter struck out two while allowing two runs in two innings for Glendale in the Arizona Fall League on Saturday.
Painter gave up three hits including a solo homer, and he walked one. The 6-foot-7 right-hander has missed the last two seasons due to injury and underwent Tommy John surgery in July of 2023, but he’s still considered one of the top pitching prospects in baseball. He reportedly touched 100 mph with his fastball, so the arm strength is still there. Painter should be a contributor for the Phillies in 2025 as long as he stays healthy, and there’s an immense amount of fantasy potential in his right arm.
