  • PHI Starting Pitcher #27
Aaron Nola allowed four runs in five innings and took the loss against the Mets on Tuesday.
Nola gave up five hits, walked two and struck out eight. Nola allowed a pair of solo home runs to Pete Alonso and Jesse Winker. Down 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Philadelphia desperately needed a shutdown inning. Nola allowed a single to Mark Vientos and walked the bases loaded with no outs before he was removed. A two-out two-run single by Starling Marte off Orion Kerkering gave the Mets a 4-0 lead and essentially sealed the Phillies’ fate in Game 3.
  • LAD Second Baseman #8
Enrique Hernandez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run against the Padres on Friday.
Hernandez continues to come up big in big moments in the postseason. His home run was his 14th in the playoffs in his career and ninth playoff home run with the Dodgers. Hernandez might not have even been in the lineup if not for Miguel Rojas being limited by injury. With Tommy Edman likely to play shortstop for the rest of the Dodgers’ playoff run, Hernandez could continue to see more time in centerfield. He also moved to third base late in Game 5 and made a couple nice defensive plays.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #11
Yu Darvish allowed two runs in 6 2/3 innings and took the loss against the Dodgers on Friday.
Darvish gave up three hits, walked one and struck out four. In one of the biggest games in Japanese baseball history, one that featured Darvish, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Shohei Ohtani, Darvish once again pitched well against the vaunted Dodgers offense. He allowed a home run to Enrique Hernandez on a first pitch fastball in the second inning, which was the only run in the game for awhile. In the seventh inning, Teoscar Hernandez took him deep for another solo shot. If the Padres had scored any runs, let alone had the lead, there’s a good chance Darvish wouldn’t have still been pitching. Instead, the Padres finished the series not having scored in the last 24 innings. It’s tough to win like that.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #49
Blake Treinen tossed a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Padres on Friday.
It was Treinen’s second save of the series. He retied the Padres in order with the help of two nice defensive plays by Enrique Hernandez. Treinen threw only nine pitches, which is important with the NLCS starting on Sunday.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #18
Yoshinobu Yamamoto threw five scoreless innings and got the win in the Dodgers’ 2-0 victory over the Padres in Game 5 of the NLDS on Friday.
Yamamoto gave up two hits, walked one and struck out two. In one of the biggest games in the history of Japanese baseball, one that featured Yamamoto, Shohei Ohtani and Yu Darvish, Yamamoto set the tone for the Dodgers early on. It was clear from the first inning that Yamamoto was much sharper than he was in Game 1 when he allowed five runs. The Padres never got anything going against the 26-year-old right-hander and now the Dodgers are moving on to the NLCS against the Mets.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #44
Joe Musgrove had Tommy John surgery on Friday, according to Dennis Lin of the Athletic.
Musgrove won’t pitch at all in 2025. The surgery was performed by Dr. Keith Meister, according to Lin. Musgrove is under contract with the Padres through the 2027 season.
  • SD Second Baseman #7
Ha-Seong Kim underwent shoulder surgery on Thursday, according to Dennis Lin of the Athletic.
No information was provided about Kim’s return timeline. He was shutdown in September due to shoulder problems. Kim has a mutual option for 2025 in his contract, but is likely set to hit free agency.
  • LAD First Baseman #5
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Freddie Freeman will test his ankle pregame to determine if he’ll remain in the lineup.
Freeman tweaked his ankle in Game 3 and was scratched from the lineup for Game 4. He’s currently going through a pregame workout with a heavy tape job on his ankle. With the Dodgers season on the line Friday, Freeman is doing everything he can to play.
  • LAD First Baseman #5
Freddie Freeman will play first base and bat third for the Dodgers in Game 5 of the NLDS against the Padres on Friday.
Enrique Hernandez is in centerfield and will bat eighth. Otherwise, the Dodgers lineup is what we expected: DH Shohei Ohtani, RF, Mookie Betts, 1B Freddie Freeman, LF Teoscar Hernandez, 3B Max Muncy, C Will Smith, CF Enrique Hernandez and SS Tommy Edman. Los Angeles will face Padres right-hander Yu Darvish, who beat them in Game 2 of the series.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #16
The Guardians confirmed that Matthew Boyd would start Saturday’s Game 5 against the Tigers.
Boyd pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings in Game 2, so he was always the obvious choice. The Guardians could have used an opener in front of him, but that’s not typically a tactic of theirs.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher #29
Braxton Garrett was diagnosed with a left elbow impingement last week, the Marlins stated.
Garrett spent the second half of the season working his way back from a flexor tendon strain and made three minor league rehab starts in September, but the Marlins declined to activate him for the final 10 days, even though he seemed ready to return. Now we know why. Garrett also missed the start of his year with a shoulder impingement, and he wound up making just seven starts for the Marlins in May and June. If healthy, he’ll be penciled into next year’s rotation.
