Bryce Harper hit a two-run homer in a Game 2 against the Mets on Sunday in the NLDS.
Harper also drew two walks; including one that set-up the game-winning hit by Nick Castellanos. The two-run homer came in the sixth inning when the Phillies were trailing 3-0. Harper has been excellent over the first two games of the series, and he’s largely responsible for Philadelphia not falling into a 2-0 hole. Game 2 is Tuesday.

11-year MLB veteran Jace Peterson has taken a job in player development with the Brewers.
Peterson never announced his retirement, but this would seem to be the end of the 34-year-old. He hit .226/.317/.335 with 42 homers over 887 big-league games with the Padres, Braves, Yankees, Blue Jays, Brewers, A’s and D-backs. Baseball-reference puts him at 3.3 WAR in his three seasons with the Brewers and -0.5 WAR for the rest of his career.

A.J. Minter made his spring debut Wednesday with a scoreless inning against the Cardinals.
Minter, who is making his way back from hip surgery, retired the side on 10 pitches. His two fastballs checked in at 93.0 mph, which seems like a good start even if he was down from his 2024 average of 94.5 mph.
  • BOS Third Baseman #2
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said he plans to go with a lineup top five of Jarren Duran, Rafael Devers, Alex Bregman, Triston Casas and Trevor Story.
The only real question here was whether it by Devers-Bregman or Bregman-Devers in the second and third spots. Either way, teams are going to love throwing left-handed relievers against the top of the Boston order. The Red Sox got their righty bat in Bregman, but he’s performed far more like a left-handed hitter recently; since 2022, he’s hit .221/.319/.385 against lefties and .278/.362/.477 against righties.
  • ATH Second Baseman #53
Reds returned Rule 5 INF Cooper Bowman to the Athletics.
The Reds didn’t need to wait until the end of the spring to determine that Cooper wasn’t a fit for their current roster. It would have been a big jump for the 25-year-old, who struggled in his first taste of Triple-A last year and who was hitting just .120/.267/.120 in 30 plate appearances this spring,
  • KC Relief Pitcher #53
Carlos Estévez, returning from back tightness, threw live batting practice Tuesday and is set to make his spring debut Friday.
Barring a setback, Estévez still has time to get ready for the regular season. He’s expected to be the Royals’ closer after signing a two-year, $22 million deal in January.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #33
Blue Jays signed RHP Dillon Tate to a one-year contract.
It’s a split contract for Tate, who will get $1.4 million if he’s in the majors. The right-hander was non-tendered by the Jays in November after being picked up from the Orioles late last season. He’ll probably open the year in Triple-A, but there’s a good chance he’ll see significant time in the Toronto pen.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #66
Blue Jays placed RHP Angel Bastardo on the 60-day injured list following Tommy John surgery.
Bastardo, who was plucked from the Red Sox in the Rule 5 draft, underwent Tommy John last June and won’t be a candidate for the Jays roster until the second half of the season.
  • WSH Shortstop #5
CJ Abrams left Wednesday’s game in the first inning with an apparent injury.
Abrams tripled to lead off the first, remained in initially and then walked off the field to visit the trainer with two outs. Nasim Nuñez pinch-ran for him and stayed in to play shortstop.
  • TEX Second Baseman #2
Marcus Semien is out of Wednesday’s lineup because of an illness.
Manager Bruce Bochy said it’s a stomach bug and that Semien might also need Thursday off. Sam Haggerty is playing second base today.
  • SEA Shortstop #85
Mariners reassigned SS Colt Emerson, OF Lazaro Montes, RHP Casey Lawrence, RHP Sauryn Lao and LHP Austin Kitchen to minor league camp.
The 19-year-old Emerson went 2-for-17 with a homer and a 3/4 K/BB in big-league camp. Seattle’s top prospect, he’ll probably open up this season back at high-A Everett and finish it in Double-A. Kitchen was the one guy here with a slim chance of making the Mariners, but he gave up seven runs in four innings.
