Gomber also experienced a significant drop in velocity during his first spring outing on Tuesday. As of now, there’s no clear timeline for when he may resume throwing, but Gomber noted that the goal is for him to be healthy for the duration of the season — even if he isn’t ready in time for Opening Day.

The 28-year-old hurler is recovering from an internal brace procedure and has yet to face live hitters this spring. He’s ahead of schedule though and has already thrown multiple bullpen sessions where he looked sharp. While the window is narrowing for him to ramp up fully before the season begins, the Red Sox seem confident that he’ll be ready to go.

After striking out in his first at-bat against Logan Gilbert, McMahon smacked a one-out double off of Casey Lawrence in the fourth and scored the game’s first run on an RBI knock by Nick Martini. He also singled off of Carlos Vargas in the sixth inning before giving way to a pinch runner. McMahon is off to a nice start this spring, hitting .333 (5-for-15) with a pair of runs scored, though he’s still looking for his first RBI.

The 30-year-old right-hander recorded a pair of strikeouts in the ballgame, victimizing Luke Raley and Mitch Haniger in succession with two men on base in the first inning. Márquez got three swings and misses on 48 pitches in the contest — two of those on his fastball which averaged 97.1 mph — posting a laughable CSW of just 10 percent. It remains a longshot that Márquez holds any fantasy value pitching half of his games at Coors Field.

Arozarena worked Rockies’ right-hander German Marquez for a walk in the first inning and swiped second base, but the M’s couldn’t cash him in from there. He also drew a walk in the third inning but was erased on a double play. He’s off to a slow start once again this spring, hitting just .214 (3-for-14) with no runs scored or RBI. Given what we saw from him in 2025, there’s no real reason to expect that batting average to be much different in the regular season.

Gilbert was in complete command in this one, striking out two batters on the afternoon — Ryan McMahon and Jacob Stallings. The lone baserunner against him came as the final hitter he faced, Sam Hilliard, worked a walk. The 27-year-old hurler got five swings and misses on 42 pitches on the day, registering a CSW of 26 percent. He did throw his new sinker five times in this one, with an average velocity of 93.8 mph, though it did not generate any swings and misses. The rest of the spring should be a mere formality as the Mariners’ ace gets himself ready for the regular season.

Frelick clobbered 358-foot (99.1 mph EV) two-run shot off of Slade Cecconi in the second inning to get the Brewers on the board. The 24-year-old outfielder then singled in the third inning and raced around to score on a two-run double by Manuel Margot. Frelick also smacked an RBI single in the fifth inning, swiped second base and scored on an RBI double off the bat of Jorge Alfaro. He started in center field in this one, but will be utilized all over this spring as the Brewers try to find ways to keep him in the lineup.

Margot drove in a run with a ground out to shortstop in the second inning, pulling the Brewers to within a run at 4-3. He then smacked a two-run double the following frame, increasing the Brewers’ lead to 7-4. With Blake Perkins (shin) sidelined until May, the door is open for Margot to land a spot on the Opening Day roster with a strong showing down in Arizona.

Thomas opened the scoring in the home half of the first inning with a bases-clearing double off of Thomas Pannone. He then came around to score on an RBI single by Will Brennan. Thomas also drew a walk and scored on an RBI double by Brayan Rocchio in the fifth inning. He’s off to a solid start this spring, hitting .273 (3-for-11) with a homer, six RBI and a stolen base.

Yikes. Cecconi also issued a pair of walks while striking out one on the afternoon. He actually worked a perfect first inning that included a strikeout of Brice Turang, but the wheels completely fell off for him in the second inning. There, five of the first six hitters reached against him including a two-run blast off the bat of Sal Frelick. Cecconi got five swings and misses on 50 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 26 percent. If he had intentions of competing for a spot in the Guardians’ rotation, this one will definitely hurt his cause.
