Joe Musgrove left Wednesday’s Game 2 with an injury with the Padres up 5-1 in the fourth.
Early indications are that it’s an elbow problem. Musgrove didn’t make any effort to remain in the contest after a visit from the trainer. His final pitch was a 75-mph curveball, which is several mph below his usual curve. Bryan Hoeing took over in the game against the Braves.

Angels optioned RHP Victor Mederos to Triple-A Salt Lake and reassigned RHP Chris Cortez, RHP Austin Gordon, RHP Ángel Felipe, C Dario Laverde, and C Alberto Rios to minor league camp.
Mederos, 23, will likely see appearances with the Angels before the end of 2025, but was never likely to break camp with the big-league club. The rest of these names are just organizational fodder.
  • BAL Shortstop #2
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters Sunday that Gunnar Henderson is a few days away from returning to baseball activities.
Hyde noted that Henderson is improving, and that’s really all fantasy managers can ask for. The 23-year-old will be held out over the weekend, but there’s no reason to think he won’t be ready to help Baltimore and fantasy players by the time the regular season kicks off.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #39
Andrew Kittredge didn’t pitch Saturday because of left knee soreness.
Kittredge warmed up to pitch during Saturday’s tilt, but the 34-year-old didn’t get into the game because of his soreness. Orioles manager Brandon Hyde called the right-hander day-to-day, so it doesn’t appear Kittredge is dealing with an injury that will prevent him from being ready for the regular season.
  • BAL Third Baseman #11
Jordan Westburg (back) resumed swinging Sunday.
Westburg has been out of action in the Grapefruit League because of soreness in his back, but he resumed throwing over the weekend, and the fact he’s back to swinging the stick suggests he should be able to get into game action in the coming days.
  • STL Starting Pitcher
Cardinals reassigned LHP Quinn Mathews to minor league camp.
Mathews was a long shot to make the St. Louis rotation out of spring training, but he is widely considered one of the top pitching prospects in the Cardinals’ system, and he has a good chance of making starts for the team before 2025 comes to a close.
  • COL Relief Pitcher #46
Jeff Criswell is set to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery.
The surgery will likely mean that he misses the start of the 2026 season as well. Criswell was competing for a bullpen spot with the Rockies to begin the year, but obviously there’ll be another hurler who wins a low-leverage spot in the Colorado bullpen to begin the year.
  • MLB Commissioner
ESPN’s Don Van Natta Jr. reports Rob Manfred is considering a request to remove Pete Rose from the ineligible list.
Manfred is said to be considering a petition filed in January by Rose’s family after he met with Rose’s oldest daughter in December. The commissioner previously rejected a similar petition after meeting with Rose himself in 2015. Rose, who passed away at the age of 83 in September of 2024, is MLB’s all-time hit leader, but was banned for life by then-commissioner A. Bartlett Giamatti in 1989.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #33
A.J. Minter threw live batting practice for the first time since having hip surgery on Sunday.
Minter allowed some loud contact, induced whiffs and broke Starling Marte’s bat on the final pitch of the live batting practice session. The 31-year-old left-handed has said that he expects to be ready for Opening Day and should appear in spring training games sometime this month. Minter figures to be one of the setup men for Edwin Diaz in the Mets’ bullpen this year.
  • NYY Second Baseman #26
DJ LeMahieu told reporters his calf injury is “not anything major but it’s probably going to be a little bit” before he’s able to return.
LeMahieu tweaked his calf during Saturday’s game against the Astros with manager Aaron Boone deeming the injury as “at least a little concerning.” I’ll say. Injuries limited the 36-year-old infielder to just 67 games in 2024, when he hit .204 with two home runs and 26 RBI. While LeMahieu is competing for the third base job this spring, another injury gives Oswaldo Cabrera a head start on manning the position.
  • CHC Center Fielder #4
Pete Crow-Armstrong homered and drove in four runs against the Royals on Saturday.
The man they call PCA blistered a two-run homer off Cole Ragans in the first inning. He drove in another run off Ragans with a sac fly, and he doubled in his fourth and final run in the sixth. Crow-Armstrong has been outstanding in the first week-plus of Cactus League action with a .500 average and .929 slugging percentage, and while that’s not even kind of sustainable, it’s a reminder of how much talent the 22-year-old possesses.
