  • NYY Center Fielder #89
Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Tuesday there’s no decision as to who will start in left field for the Yankees in Game 1 of the ALDS.
One of those options for left field is Jasson Dominguez, and Boone did state that he expects the 21-year-old to play a “big part” in their postseason plans. That doesn’t mean he’ll be in the lineup everyday, however, and the Yankees may want to ease the talented outfielder into action. Alex Verdugo and Trent Grisham are other options for the Yankees, but don’t be surprise if The Martian is in the lineup against either the Orioles or Royals when that series begins.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #11
Yu Darvish pitched seven innings of one-run ball Sunday in the Padres’ 10-2 rout of the Dodgers.
The Padres evened the series at 1-1 as they head home for Game 3 on Tuesday. Darvish struck out only three tonight, but he mostly produced soft contact and was aided by his defense, particularly when Jurickson Profar took a homer away from Mookie Betts. It’s the first time since May 19 that Darvish has completed seven innings. He improved to 5-6 with a 3.88 ERA in 12 career postseason starts.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #0
Jack Flaherty was charged with four runs in 5 1/3 innings Sunday in the loss to the Padres.
The first three runs came on a pair of homers in the first two innings. Flaherty did a nice job after that, but he was tagged with more run after being pulled in the sixth. His velocity, down in his final two starts of the regular season, was back up tonight, as he averaged 93.6 mph with his fastball. It’s reason to be encouraged if he gets another opportunity; he’ll be available to work in a Game 5, potentially in relief of Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
  • SD Right Fielder #23
Fernando Tatis Jr. hit two homers and doubled Sunday against the Dodgers in Sunday’s Game 2.
Tatis homered and doubled off Jack Flaherty, whom he had already enjoyed great success again during the regular-season games, and then added another homer in the ninth after the game was decided. He’s an incredible 9-for-14 with three homers and two doubles in four postseason games.
  • SD Center Fielder #3
Jackson Merrill went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBI against the Dodgers on Sunday.
It was still a contest when Merrill hit a two-run homer off Ryan Brasier to make it a 6-1 game in the eighth, and the Padres piled on from there. Merrill is 6-for-14 with three extra-base hits and two walks four games into his first postseason.
  • SD Shortstop #2
Xander Bogaerts came out of Sunday’s game in the eighth inning after grabbing at his hamstring in an at-bat.
Bogaerts promptly homered after a visit from the trainer and then took what was probably his slowest trot of his career. We’re guessing this was a cramping situation and that he’ll be OK for Tuesday.
  • LAD First Baseman #5
Freddie Freeman was replaced by Enrique Hernández to begin the sixth inning of Sunday’s Game 2 because of ankle soreness.
Max Muncy moved from third base to first. The Dodgers will start working on getting Freeman ready for Tuesday’s Game 3. Prior to returning Saturday, he missed the final three games of the regular season with an ankle sprain.
  • NYM Third Baseman #27
Mark Vientos went 2-for-4 with a homer and a double in a Game 2 loss to the Phillies on Sunday in the NLDS.
After doubling to right in the first inning, Vientos went the other way again in the third with a runner on to give the Mets a 2-0 lead. Six innings later, he tied the game in the ninth with a two-run blast to left off Matt Strahm at 6-6. The 24-year-old is off to a nice start to the postseason with seven RBI in the first five games of the playoffs, and he should continue to hit near the top of the lineup as long as New York is alive.
  • PHI Shortstop #7
Trea Turner scored twice and stole two bases while going 2-for-4 in a win over the Mets on Sunday in Game 2 of the NLDS.
Both steals came in the first inning; one when the Mets basically told him third base was open if he wanted it. It’s still nice to see the 31-year-old run after he “only” picked up 19 steals in the regular season. We’ll see if this is a sign of things to come for the Philadelphia postseason run.
  • NYM Left Fielder #9
Brandon Nimmo hit a go-ahead homer in the seventh inning in a loss to the Phillies for the Mets on Sunday in Game 2 of the NLDS.
After the Phillies scored three in the sixth to tie the game, Nimmo untied it with a two-out solo shot off Orion Kerkering. Nimmo also singled and has hit .333/.391/.476 slash over the first five games of the postseason.
  • NYM First Baseman #20
Pete Alonso hit a solo homer in a loss to the Phillies in Game 2 of the NLDS for the Mets on Sunday.
Alonso went the opposite way again off Jorge Ruiz to give the Mets a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning. That’s his second homer of the postseason, and while he’s hitting just .176 over the first five games, he’s been able to drive in five runs with a .529 slugging mark.
