  • NYY Relief Pitcher #38
Yankees activated RHP Mark Leiter Jr. from the paternity list.
Leiter takes the roster spot of Will Warren, who was sent down after Saturday’s game.
  • NYM Second Baseman #26
Mets designated INF/OF Eddy Alvarez for assignment.
Alvarez was acquired from the Red Sox in September to serve as a platoon man for the final month, and did a solid job. The 34-year-old was ineligible for the postseason because the team acquired him after August 31. Max Kranick had his contract selected in the corresponding move.
  • NYM Left Fielder #3
Jesse Winker (back) is hitting sixth and the designated hitter for Game 1 of the Wild Card series against the Brewers.
There was some concern that Winker’s back issues may have kept him out of the lineup — and potentially off the roster — but the Mets will have the 31-year-old available against Freddy Peralta and the Brew Crew. The full lineup: SS Francisco Lindor, 2B Jose Iglesias, LF Brandon Nimmo, 3B Mark Vientos, 1B Pete Alonso, DH Winker, RF Starling Marte, CF Tyrone Taylor and catcher Francisco Alvarez.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #54
Martín Pérez is not a part of the Wild Card series roster against Atlanta.
There was some thought that Pérez could be a lefty reliever for San Diego for that first series, but the Padres will go with Yuki Matsui in that role instead. Pérez could be an option in the NLDS against the Dodgers if San Diego were to advance.
  • ATL Starting Pitcher #51
Chris Sale (back) is not on the Wild Card series roster.
It’s not a huge surprise, as it was announced Monday that Sale was unlikely to pitch in the WIld Card series against the Padres because of his back spasms. It’s still significant, as Sale is going to win the Cy Young this year, and Atlanta’s pitching depth behind the southpaw is questionable. If Atlanta does win the best-of-three series against San Diego, Sale will be eligible to pitch in that series and beyond. AJ Smith-Shawver and Bryce Elder are both on the Wild Card roster, and both have a chance to make a start during the series.
  • MLB General Manager
Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey announced that the Giants have fired general manager Pete Putila.
The Giants are cleaning house, with Posey the new president of baseball operations and Farhan Zaidi being let go in the process. Posey told reporters that the GIants will begin a search for a new general manager immediately.
  • FA Center Fielder #20
Fish on First reports that the Cristian Pache, Jose Devers and Kent Emanuel have elected minor-league free agency.
Pache was designated for assignment and outrighted off the Marlins’ roster just before the end of the year, and the former top prospect will be looking for yet another new home in the offseason. Devers has been in the Miami organization since the Giancarlo Stanton trade, but never was able to make a big impact. Emanuel should see interest for teams looking for pitching depth this spring.
  • TEX Right Fielder #53
Rangers general manager Chris Young told reporters Tuesday that Adolis García will undergo an MRi on his left knee.
García missed Sunday’s game with a sore knee after picking up the injury Saturday during the Rangers’ game against the Angels. The 31-year-old is a bounceback candidate after a disappointing 2024 season, but he may need to overcome an injury this offseason to go along with the poor results.
  • MIL Right Fielder #10
Sal Frelick (hip) is a part of the Wild Card series roster for the Brewers.
Frelick left Friday’s game against the Mets — the team the Brewers will be facing in the best-of-three series — with a hip injury, but the 24-year-old told reporters Monday he expected to be ready for action. There’s no lineup out just yet, but at the very least, Frelick is well enough to be on the roster.
  • HOU Left Fielder #30
After originally being scheduled to hit third, Kyle Tucker will now hit second in Game 1 of the Wild Card series against the Tigers on Tuesday.
The original lineup had Tucker in the third spot with Yordan Alvarez hitting second. Instead, Tucker will move up one spot, and Alvarez — who is coming back from a knee bruise that sidelined him the better part of a week — will get the chance to drive in Tucker and Jose Altuve in the third spot.
  • BAL Second Baseman #7
Jackson Holliday is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of the Wild Card series against the Royals on Tuesday.
Holliday will take a seat against southpaw Cole Ragans, and the 20-year-old will likely not be in the lineup against lefties for the postseason. Ramos Urias gets the start at third base with Jordan Westburg at second. The full lineup for the O’s against Ragans: Gunnar Henderson SS, Westburg 2B, Anthony Santander RF, Ryan Mountcastle 1B, Adley Rutschman DH, Colton Cowser LF, Urias 3B, Cedric Mullins CF and James McCann behind the plate with Corbin Burnes on the mound.
