Marwin Gonzalez announced his retirement from baseball through a press release from the Orix Buffaloes of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball.
Gonzalez, 35, hasn’t appeared in an MLB game since 2022, but spent parts of 11 seasons in the major leagues. He was originally signed by the Chicago Cubs as an amateur free agent in 2005. Gonzalez was selected by the Red Sox in the 2011 Rule 5 Draft before Boston traded him to the Houston Astros. He’s most remembered for his time in Houston, where he hit .303 with 23 home runs and 90 RBI and the Astros won the World Series in 2017.
