  • MIN Relief Pitcher #48
Twins activated RHP Justin Topa from the 60-day injured list.
Topa, acquired from the Mariners in the Jorge Polanco deal after breaking through with a 2.61 ERA in 75 relief appearances last year, almost missed the entire season with left knee issues. He’s joining the pen now after giving up three runs over two innings in his latest rehab assignment.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #98
Yankees optioned RHP Will Warren to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Warren was recalled before Saturday’s game and now is getting sent down after allowing three runs in an inning versus the Pirates. He winds up with a 10.32 ERA in five starts and one relief appearance for the Yankees.
  • HOU Left Fielder #44
With the inflammation in his knee having gone down, Yordan Alvarez could resume baseball activities on Sunday, manager Joe Espada said.
If all goes well, it sounds like he has a chance of being on the Wild Card roster as a DH. Alvarez hasn’t played since last Sunday due to a sprained knee.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #17
Bailey Ober is expected to start Sunday in spite of the Twins’ elimination.
Ober doesn’t really have much anything to shoot for Sunday, unless he can strike out 13 to get to 200. He’s already established new career highs in wins, strikeouts and innings. The one bad thing that could happen would be for his ERA to rise over 4.00; he’s at 3.94 right now.
  • MIN Right Fielder #9
Twins placed OF Trevor Larnach on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring.
Larnach finishes the year with a .259/.338/.434 line and 15 homers in 400 plate appearances. It’s a nice little step forward for him — his wOBA and xwOBA were up about 30 points from his previous career marks — and the Twins figure to pencil him in as a platoon corner outfielder next year.
  • MIN Center Fielder #89
Twins recalled OF DaShawn Keirsey Jr. from Triple-A St. Paul.
Keirsey should get one or two late starts here with Trevor Larnach going on the IL. He went 1-for-10 in his major league debut earlier this month, but he wound up with a nice .300/.368/.476 line and 36 steals in Triple-A.
  • CHC Left Fielder #27
Seiya Suzuki went 2-for-2 with a run scored and two walks in the Cubs 3-0 win over the Reds on Saturday.
Suzuki was one of the bright spots in Saturday’s low-scoring affair against Cincinnati. He reached base in all four plate appearances, starting with a base hit in the first inning. He drew a walk in the third, then led off the sixth with a single. He was intentionally walked in the eighth and scored on a base hit by Pete Crow-Armstrong. The 30-year-old outfielder has put together a solid season, slashing .283/.366/.484 with 21 homers, 74 runs scored, 73 RBI, and 16 steals across 580 plate appearances.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #37
Porter Hodge tossed a clean ninth inning with one strikeout to record the save against the Reds on Saturday.
Hodge was summoned in the top of the ninth to close out the game with a comfortable three-run lead. He induced two groundouts and a strikeout in a clean frame to lock down ninth save of the season.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #28
Kyle Hendricks tossed 7 1/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts in a no-decision against the Reds on Saturday.
Hendricks ends his season with his best start of the year, holding the Reds scoreless into the eighth inning. He scattered two hits and two walks, striking out two batters while tossing an efficient 81 pitches. He’d take a no-decision as neither team could put a run on the board through the seventh inning. The 34-year-old right-hander ends his season with a 5.92 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and a 87/43 K/BB ratio across 130 2/3 innings.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #81
Rhett Lowder struck out one batter over five scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Saturday.
Lowder was outstanding yet again, shutting the Cubs down with five scoreless innings, scattering three hits and three walks while striking out one batter. He’d have to settle for a no-decision after the Reds went scoreless against Kyle Hendricks. The 22-year-old right hander was impressive over his first six career starts, allowing just four runs over 30 2/3 innings for a 1.17 ERA and 1.27 WHIP while striking out 22 batters.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #70
Dodgers recalled LHP Justin Wrobleski from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Wrobleski will be available out of the pen today. He has a 6.40 ERA in six starts and one relief appearance for the Dodgers this season.
