  • Dodgers selected the contract of RHP Edgardo Henriquez from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Now it’s official. The Dodgers want to see what the 22-year-old flamethrower has in the gas tank before the playoffs. Ben Casparius was optioned to make space on the active roster and Gavin Stone was transferred to the 60-day IL to make space on the 40-man roster.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #59
Framber Valdez yielded three runs in 5 2/3 innings Tuesday as the Astros edged the Mariners 4-3 to clinch the AL West.
It’s Houston’s seventh division title in eight years. Valdez moved to 15-8 with a 2.91 ERA. He would have been an option to start Sunday against the Guardians, but now his next appearance figures to come in a Wild Card series.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #71
Josh Hader struck out three in 1 1/3 scoreless innings for a save Tuesday against the Mariners.
Hader, who gave up four runs to the Angels last time out, was able to close out the division clincher tonight. He improved to 33-for-37 in his save chances.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #36
Logan Gilbert surrendered four runs over six innings Tuesday in a loss to the Mariners.
Gilbert gave up only five hits, but three of those were homers, including a fortunate 336-foot shot from Kyle Tucker. Incredibly, the Mariners have gone 14-18 in Gilbert’s 32 starts, even though the right-hander has a 3.33 ERA. Gilbert isn’t currently lined up for another start, but he could pitch Sunday in relief if it’s a must-win game for Seattle.
  • SEA Shortstop #7
Jorge Polanco finished 4-for-4 with a homer and two RBI against the Astros on Tuesday.
Polanco had seven of the Mariners’ 14 total bases tonight. He’s hit just .214/.295/.359 this season, and he hasn’t exactly covered himself with glory defensively. It’ll be interesting to see whether the Mariners pick up his $12 million option for 2025. There’s reason to think he’ll bounce back some offensively, but his glove at second base figures to remain weak.
  • SEA Shortstop #3
J.P. Crawford struck out all four times he was up Tuesday against the Astros.
Crawford has gone from an .818 OPS in 2023 to a .631 OPS this year. The good news is that his exit velocity numbers haven’t gotten any worse, but 2023 still looks like a bigger positive fluke than 2024 has been a negative fluke. It’s not a disaster; Crawford is still perfectly fine as a starting shortstop who hits in the bottom-third of the order. He’s just not the star-level player the Mariners want him to be.
  • OAK Center Fielder #1
Esteury Ruiz underwent arthroscopic knee surgery to fix the patellar tendon in his right knee on Tuesday.
The Athletics announced that Ruiz will completed his post-surgical rehabilitation this offseason, which suggests the surgery won’t impact his availability for the 2025 season. Ruiz seemed to fall out of favor with the Athletics this season prior to his injury. With the emergence of JJ Bleday and Lawrence Butler, Ruiz will have to play his way back into the A’s plans in 2025.
  • MIN Right Fielder #38
Twins manager Rocco Baldelli told reporters that OF Matt Wallner has left oblique tightness.
Wallner left Tuesday’s game against the Marlins grabbing his side after a pinch hit appearance. Baldelli confirmed that the injury is left oblique tightness and the team hopes to know more about a potential timeline to return presumably after some testing on Wednesday.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher #60
Ryan Weathers pitched five innings of one-run ball for the victory as the Marlins topped the Twins 4-1 on Tuesday.
Weathers settled for just four missed swings and two strikeouts in the 82-pitch outing, but he got the job done, as he typically has while healthy this year. He’s 4-6 with a 3.81 ERA heading into a likely game-162 start against the Blue Jays.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #38
Jesus Tinoco picked up his third save by retiring all five batters he faced Tuesday against the Twins.
The 29-year-old Tinoco had one career save as of two weeks ago, but he’s up to four now. He has a 1.80 ERA and a 29/4 K/BB ratio in 25 innings since the Marlins picked him up off waivers from the Cubs.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #17
Bailey Ober lost to the Marlins after allowing four runs in five innings on Tuesday.
It was a rather unbelievable outing for Ober, who gave up eight hits despite allowing only three hard-hit balls. He struck out seven and walked two. It was just a bad night for him to have such bad luck, and he’s now 12-8 with a 3.94 ERA for the year. He’ll likely start Sunday if the game is relevant for the Twins.
