  • PHI Starting Pitcher #99
The Phillies will have Tanner Banks — not Taijuan Walker — start Tuesday against the Cubs.
It’s Walker’s spot in the rotation, but he won’t get another opportunity to start after giving up eight runs to the Mets on Thursday. Either he or Kolby Allard could follow Banks in the contest, since Banks will likely pitch two innings at the most. One imagines Walker would have to turn in a couple of impressive performances over the next six days to have a shot of making the Phillies’ initial postseason roster.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #34
Michael King allowed only one unearned run over five innings Tuesday as the Padres beat the Dodgers 4-2 to clinch a postseason berth.
The Padres could yet win the NL West if they sweep the Dodgers here, but they’ll be playing in October regardless. They won tonight on a 5-4-3 triple play after the Dodgers picked up three straight hits to begin the bottom of the ninth. King moved to 13-9 with a 2.95 ERA. The Padres could start him again on Sunday, but it seems more likely that he’ll be saved for the postseason.
  • SD Relief Pitcher #75
Even though he gave up hits to three of the four batters he faced, Robert Suarez picked up a save Tuesday against the Dodgers.
A triple play bailed out Suarez in the midst of another shaky outing. He did give up one run before the fortunate grounder, but he improved to 35-for-41 in his save chances.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #96
Landon Knack yielded four runs in four innings Tuesday in his start against the Padres.
Knack struck out four and walked only one tonight, but he was hit pretty hard when the Padres made contact. He’s due to make one more regular-season start Sunday against the Rockies at Coors Field. He’s not recommended in mixed leagues in that one.
  • SD Second Baseman #9
Jake Cronenworth had a two-run homer and an RBI double to drive in three of the Padres’ four runs in Tuesday’s win over the Dodgers.
The homer off Landon Knack was Cronenworth’s first of September and fifth in 76 games after he hit 12 in his first 75 games. Any sort of turnaround from him would be big for the Padres in October.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #62
Logan Webb pitched four-hit ball for six innings and combined with two relievers on an 11-0 shutout of the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
In what was probably Webb’s final start of the year, he moved to 13-10 with a 3.47 ERA. A poor five-start run leading into this one ruined his chances of finishing as high as second in the Cy Young balloting for a second straight year, but he belongs somewhere in the top five among NL pitchers. He’s first in the NL in innings and 10th in ERA.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #32
Brandon Pfaadt lasted just 2 2/3 innings and gave up five runs — four earned — in a loss to the Giants on Tuesday.
Pfaadt was terrific in striking out 12 Brewers last week, but that’s his only quality start of late. His ERA has jumped from 3.92 on Aug. 7 to 4.80 now, even though his FIP hasn’t changed much. While he was a key starter for the Diamondbacks during their postseason run last year, his status seems up in the air at this point.
  • SF Center Fielder #17
Heliot Ramos went 4-for-5 and hit his 22nd homer Tuesday against the D-backs.
Ramos came into this one at just .229/.266/.399 since the All-Star break, but his place in the Giants’ 2025 outfield is likely assured. He’s at .270/.323/.473 in 505 plate appearances for the season. That .796 OPS is barely ahead of Matt Chapman’s .793 mark for the team lead, or for second place if one factors in Tyler Fitzgerald’s .848 mark in 325 plate appearance.
  • ARI Catcher #14
Gabriel Moreno went 0-for-3 in his return to Arizona’s lineup Tuesday.
Moreno sat out just one game after tweaking his adductor muscle. He missed 5 1/2 weeks after his original strain suffered last month.
  • STL Shortstop #0
Masyn Winn delivered a two-run homer and a two-run double Tuesday as the Cardinals topped the Rockies 7-3.
It’s Winn’s first four-RBI game as a major leaguer. He’s up to 15 homers, even though he has just 16 barrels on the season. Statcast thinks his slugging percentage should be about 40 points lower than his current .411 mark. He’s just 22, and it’s safe to assume his exit velocities will improve going forward, but he might wind up a little overrated next spring.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #36
Michael McGreevy surrendered three runs in five innings Tuesday in a loss to the Rockies.
Making his third big-league appearance this season, McGreevy struck out five and walked one in a solid effort at Coors Field. The Cardinals will probably give him one more start Sunday against the Giants.
