  • CLE Relief Pitcher #62
Eric Sabrowski picked up his first career save for throwing 2 1/3 scoreless innings in a 5-1 win over the Cardinals on Friday.
The 26-year-old Sabrowski was making his sixth big-league appearance. He’s up to 10 scoreless innings with a 13/3 K/BB after this one. Emmanuel Clase had pitched the last two days, so the Guardians might have turned to Cade Smith had there been a save situation after eight innings tonight. However, since it was a four-run game, Sabrowski got to finish.
  • LAD Designated Hitter #17
Shohei Ohtani went 3-for-4 and collected his 52nd homer and his 52nd steal in the Dodgers’ 6-4 win over the Rockies on Friday.
Ohtani has just three homers and three steals against the Rockies this season, but he’ll have a chance to add to those totals with five more games coming up, including three at Coors Field. 55/55 is definitely on the table.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #45
Michael Kopech recorded his 14th save despite giving up a solo homer to the Rockies’ Michael Toglia on Friday.
It’s the first homer he’s allowed in 21 appearances for the Dodgers, and it accounted for just the third run he’s yielded. Kopech actually almost gave up a second one, but Jake Cave’s fly to right was caught at the wall to end the game. Statcast said it would have been a homer in 19 ballparks.
  • COL Starting Pitcher #21
Kyle Freeland surrendered three homers and four runs in six innings Friday in a loss to the Dodgers.
Freeland has given up five homers in his last two starts while actually lowering his ERA slightly during the span. He’s 5-8 with a 4.95 ERA overall. It’s essentially a lock that his ERA+ will worsen for a fourth straight year. Since 2020, he’s come in at 120, 111, 102, 99 and now 93. He’ll likely get the Cardinals at home in his final start.
  • LAD Left Fielder #37
Teoscar Hernández went 2-for-4 and hit his 30th homer Friday versus the Rockies.
Hernández got a rare day off on Thursday and followed it up with a big effort. It’s his second 30-homer season, and he’s two away from matching his 2021 total. He has no chance of reaching his career high of 116 RBI from that season, but a big final week would get him to 100 for the second time. He’s currently eight away with eight games to go.
  • NYM Shortstop #12
Francisco Lindor received a facet joint injection in his back on Thursday in an effort to increase his rate of recovery.
Lindor felt well enough after the injection to take some batting practice swing on Friday. The shot was designed to numb his back, reduce pain and swelling and increase range of motion. Lindor seemed encouraged that he could bend over and tie his shoes without pain, which is always a good sign. There is still hope in the Mets organization that Lindor will get back on the field this weekend against the Phillies, but that’s far from a guarantee.
  • SD Right Fielder #23
Fernando Tatis Jr. doubled to start and end the bottom of the 10th, giving the Padres a 3-2 win over the White Sox on Friday.
After the White Sox had a runner thrown out at home and failed to score in the top of the inning, Tatis lined the second pitch of the bottom of the inning into right-center to conclude the game. It was his only hit in five at-bats, but that’s just fine.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #44
Joe Musgrove threw six shutout innings with nine strikeouts against the White Sox in a no-decision Friday.
It’s the fifth time in eight starts since returning from the IL in which Musgrove has gone without allowing a run. He has a 2.05 ERA and a 51/7 K/BB in 44 innings during the stretch, with six of the 10 runs he allowed coming in one outing. He’s due to make his next start Thursday versus the Dodgers.
  • SD Relief Pitcher #75
Robert Suarez took his sixth blown save by giving up a two-run homer in the ninth Friday against the White Sox.
Suarez had two blown saves and a 1.67 ERA while pitching his way to the All-Star Game in the first half. He’s since totaled four blown saves with a 4.44 ERA in 24 1/3 innings. The ERA jumps to 6.11 considering only his last 18 appearances. He’ll likely finish out the year as the Padres’ closer, but one wonders if they’ll lean more on Tanner Scott in October.
  • CWS Starting Pitcher #45
Garrett Crochet struck out eight in four scoreless innings Friday against the Padres.
Crochet’s third strikeout was his 200th of the year, and he kept going from there. This would be a strong one for Crochet to finish on, if the White Sox want to go that route. However, while there were hints before the game that this would be his last start, there were no declarations afterwards. At the moment, he’s penciled in to pitch Thursday against the Angels.
  • CWS Shortstop #50
Lenyn Sosa homered in the ninth to account for both White Sox runs against the Padres on Friday.
Sosa’s shot tied the game off Robert Suarez before the White Sox were quickly dispatched in extras. A starting second baseman as of late, Sosa is currently at .243/.269/.332 with six homers and a 72/10 K/BB in 340 plate appearances for the season. He’s not exactly nailing down a spot in the White Sox’s 2025 infield, but he’ll probably have a shot of keeping his current job, what with the team expected to go cheap this winter.,
