The second homer, his 25th of the season, came off a 103.2-mph fastball from Mason Miller in the ninth. It was the fastest pitch to be hit for a homer during the Statcast era. Alas, the A’s had a two-run lead at the time, and the Cubs came up a run short tonight. Happ has now matched his career high for homers from 2021. He’s overtaken his high for RBI; he’s currently at 85 after finishing last year at 84.

Scott did allow a hit, so it’s up to others to determine whether he struck out the side. Whether he did or not, it’s as good as Scott has looked as a Dodger, and he threw 11-of-11 pitches for strikes; impressive regardless, but especially for a pitcher who sometimes has issues with control. Scott should continue to see plenty of save chances for this loaded Dodgers’ club.

Freeman hit the second homer of the first inning with a solo blast off Germán Márquez. He also drew a walk, and while his sample is smaller because of his stint on the injured list, his slash of .333/.412/.753 over 10 games and 30 at-bats is still awfully impressive.

Toglia’s grand salami came off Bobby Miller, and turned a 7-2 deficit into a 7-6 contest. The 26-year-old has been atrocious to begin 2025 and still holds a slash .172/.209/.266, but this was a friendly reminder to everyone but Miller that there is solid power in his left-handed swing.

Ohtani tied the game at 1-1 in the first inning with a scorched leadoff homer that traveled 448 feet and sounded more like an aggression of war than a baseball hit. He drove in his second run of the game — and inning — with an RBI single; giving Los Angeles a seven-spot in the first frame. Ohtani has only “only” driven in eight runs despite six homers, but it’s hard to complain too much. He’s well on his way to another sensational campaign.

Miller was making his first start of the 2025 season, and it’s hard to fathom it went how he wanted it to. Fortunately for him and the fantasy managers who streamed him against the lowly Rockies, he received seven runs of support while he was in, so he wasn’t charged with a loss. He did strike out seven, but he allowed eight hits as well; two of those hits leaving the ballpark. The biggest blow was a grand slam by Michael Toglia, buth e pitched shakily — to put it nicely — for most of the contest. There’s no start scheduled, but if Miller does get another outing, it’ll likely come against the Cubs on Wednesday.

Márquez was handed a 1-0 lead going into his first and final inning, and it lasted just four pitches before Shohei Ohtani smashed a solo homer. He gave up another homer two batters later to Freddie Freeman, and the 30-year-old allowed four more hits and the same amount of runs before exiting. It’s hard to imagine that anyone used Márquez that didn’t have to Wednesday, but for those who did: whoops. He’ll be on the mound next week against the Royals and look to lower and unsightly 8.27 ERA.

Seager extended the Rangers’ lead to 3-0 with a two-run single in the third inning. The three hits bumps his average to .288, and he’s picked up multiple hits in three of his last four contests. When Seager is hot, there are very few hitters better in the sport of baseball.

Jackson didn’t get a strikeout, but the Angels didn’t give him much of a chance to pick one up, as he threw just six pitches in the contest. That’s the sixth save of the season, and he’s posted a respectable 3.38 ERA while procuring them.

Soriano’s outing could have gone much worse, but the Rangers went 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position (RISP). He struck out just two and issued the same amount of walks in a start that wasn’t nearly as good as the one he had Thursday against the Rays. Soriano is still a decent — if far from infallible — option against the Pirates next week.

Wait, what year is it? Corbin has been terrible over the last few years and wasn’t effective in his first start against the Royals last Tuesday, but he struck out six in a start that was a glimpse — if you squinted real hard — of what Corbin used to be earlier in his career. A nice outing, but fantasy managers would be foolish to trust him to repeat it against the Athletics next week.
