Tj Friedl went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI versus the Twins on Friday.
Friedl was due, considering he came into this one with a .169 average and one homer in his previous 18 games. Health has been an issue for him all season, but the fact is that he’s been a poor regular for the Reds while hitting .221/.300/.388 in 294 plate appearances.

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy told reporters that Wyatt Langford is being shut down with a mild oblique strain.
Langford is expected to not participate in baseball activities for the next 5-7 days. The good news is that the strain is considered “mild” and barring something unforeseeable, it shouldn’t affect his status for Opening Day. Langford had ups-and-downs in his rookie campaign, but possesses some of the best upside among young outfielders in the sport.
  • CWS Starting Pitcher #53
Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that the White Sox could use Mike Clevinger in a bullpen role.
Clevinger has been a wholly ineffective over the past few seasons and dealt with injuries, but could help the White Sox while not helping fantasy managers as a multi-inning option. If he does pitch well enough to make the team, Chicago will need to make a move to add him to the 40-man roster.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #70
Ricky Tiedemann (elbow) is hoping to pitch in games by the end of the 2024 season.
It seems like a long shot as Tiedemann underwent Tommy John surgery in July, but it’s not a foregone conclusion he couldn’t. Those games almost assuredly wouldn’t be with the Blue Jays, but the 22-year-old still has the upside to be a fantasy contributor in the latter part of the decade.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #77
Luis Garcia (elbow) was able to complete a bullpen session Thursday.
Garcia, 28, is going to miss the start of the 2025 season as he continues to recover from Tommy John surgery he underwent in 2024. He’s been relatively effective when healthy, and someone to keep an eye on for the summer months — assuming good health, of course.
  • KC Second Baseman #6
Jonathan India is starting in left field and hitting leadoff for Friday’s spring Cactus League game against the the Rangers.
India was acquired from the Reds in the deal for Brady Singer after playing predominantly at second base for Cincinnati but he’s expected to see looks at a few different positions this spring. That includes the outfield as well as third base, and the fact that India could be an everyday option with multiple positions of eligibility certainly adds to his potential fantasy intrigue.
  • BOS Center Fielder #48
Roman Anthony was scratched from Friday’s exhibition game against Northeastern University because of soreness in his right elbow.
Anthony was hit in that elbow during Thursday’s session, and the Red Sox aren’t going to take any unnecessary risks with their top prospect. The 20-year-old should be back in action in the coming days.
  • CWS Starting Pitcher #53
Robert Murray of FanSided reports that the White Sox have re-signed RHP Mike Clevinger to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Clevinger has been absolutely terrible on the mound over the last two seasons while also dealing with injuries including a disc replacement surgery that sidelined him late in July. The 34-year-old will be given a shot to win a rotation spot, but even if he were to open the year with the White Sox, nothing since the start of 2023 suggests that it’ll go very well.
  • SEA First Baseman #44
Mariners signed 1B Rowdy Tellez to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Tellez will have an outside shot of making the Seattle roster. The 29-year-old hit .243/.299/.342 with 13 homers for the Pirates in his first and only year with Pittsburgh. Tellez has shown offensive ability and still is on the right side of 30, but it’d be a major upset if he was anything more than roster filler at this stage of his career.
  • CIN Left Fielder #7
Reds skipper Terry Francona told reporters on Thursday that Spencer Steer (shoulder) will resume throwing soon.
The versatile 27-year-old slugger battled shoulder woes down the stretch during the 2024 season so it is highly discouraging to hear that he’s having the same issues after an entire offseason. The Reds plan to get Steer into Cactus League action as the designated hitter before he’s ready to play in the field as a way to protect his shoulder. For now, it sounds like he should be ready for the start of the regular season, but it’s definitely a situation that fantasy managers should be closely monitoring.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #41
Reds manager Terry Francona told reporters on Thursday that Andrew Abbott (shoulder) has been progressing nicely.
Francona elaborated, “He’s on a good progression. We wanted to do it correctly. I hope we’ll be rewarded for doing it correctly. I think he feels pretty good about it too.” It’s unclear whether or not the 25-year-old southpaw will be ready to be a part of the team’s Opening Day rotation, but it doesn’t sound like he’ll be shelved for long if he does ultimately start the season on the injured list. Abbott was put on the IL last August with a shoulder strain.
