The Cardinals will meet with Willson Contreras (finger) on Monday to determine his timeline for return.
Contreras has been sidelined with a broken left middle finger, but he is reportedly eager to get back on the field He will be reevaluated on Monday and then the club will “chart his path to a return,” manager Oliver Marmol said. Contreras has been out of the splint for the past week, so it’s possible he could return within another 7-10 days.

Taylor Ward is not in the starting lineup for Friday’s bout against the Orioles.
Ward will get a rare day off to open the series against Baltimore. The 31-year-old will get a break with LaMonte Wade Jr. handling left field and hitting seventh against Charlie Morton and the O’s.
Casparius may get good ratios as Dodgers starter
Eric Samulski analyzes the Dodgers moving Ben Casparius into the starting rotations and what he will bring to fantasy managers in his new role.
  • ATH Starting Pitcher #53
Gunnar Hoglund will likely miss the rest of the 2025 season after undergoing hip surgery on Friday.
Hoglund was diagnosed with a hip impingement, and he won’t be an option for the A’s for the remainder of the 2025 campaign. He ends his rookie season with a 6.40 ERA over 32 1/3 innings accrued over six starts. He could be an option at the back of the A’s rotation in 2026.
  • ATH Shortstop #5
Jacob Wilson (hamstring) is hitting second and playing shortstop against the Royals on Friday.
Wilson missed a couple of games with his hamstring tightness, but as expected, the star rookie is good to go for the series against the Royals beginning Friday.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #63
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters that Justin Martinez will miss 12-13 months with the UCL sprain in his right elbow.
Martinez was diagnosed with his sprain Tuesday, and while the 23-year-old is awaiting a second opinion, the Diamondbacks still have ruled out the right-hander for the rest of this season and a large portion of 2026, as well. The question will be whether or not Martinez will undergo surgery and what type of operation it would be, but he won’t be a high-leverage option for Arizona for a while, at best.
  • KC Center Fielder #8
Drew Waters is not in the starting lineup for Friday’s game against the Athletics.
This will make back-to-back games against right-handed pitchers that Waters isn’t starting. The 26-year-old begins Friday’s game on the bench with Nick Loftin hitting seventh and playing left field.
  • PHI Right Fielder #16
Brandon Marsh (elbow) is hitting ninth and playing center field Friday against the Blue Jays.
Marsh missed Wednesday’s game with left elbow soreness, but the 27-year-old is good to go to begin the weekend series against Toronto.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #40
Angels recalled RHP Sam Bachman from Triple-A Salt Lake.
Bachman is up to provide the Angels with some help in their relief corps. The 25-year-old former first-round selection is up with Shaun Anderson being designated for assignment for the second time in two weeks.
  • LAA 2nd Baseman #87
Angels selected the contract of INF Christian Moore from Triple-A Salt Lake.
Moore will hit ninth and play second base in his MLB debut against the Orioles on Friday. The Angels waited a little longer for this first-round pick to make his debut, but it’s yet another fast promotion from the Halos. Moore is one of the better second base prospects in baseball, and the ability to help —but not dominate — in all five categories makes him worthy of roster consideration in redraft formats.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #64
Angels designated RHP Shaun Anderson for assignment.
Well, that was quick. Anderson had been designated for assignment at the end of May, but had his contract selected by the Angels on Monday. Four days later, the 30-year-old is back on the waiver wire with Sam Bachman taking his roster spot.
  • LAA Left Fielder #15
Angels optioned OF Matthew Lugo to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Lugo gets the boot from the active roster to make room for top prospect Christian Moore. The 24-year-old outfielder should be back with the Angels at some point, but just as a depth piece.
