  • DET Catcher #38
Dillon Dingler was scratched from Tuesday’s lineup against the Rockies due to an illness.
It seems several Tigers players are dealing with a bug. Jake Rogers will be behind the plate with Dingler unable to start.
  • COL Starting Pitcher #18
Ryan Feltner limited the Diamondbacks to one run in 6 2/3 innings Tuesday in the Rockies’ 8-2 victory.
Congrats to Feltner, who won in Coors Field for the first time since Aug. 9, 2002. He’d since gone winless in 21 starts in front of the home fans. Feltner’s peripherals suggest that he’s a perfectly fine No. 3 starter at this point of his career, but with Coors holding him back and the Rockies likely to have little interest in trading him, not a lot figures to change in 2025. He’ll face the Cardinals next week in what will probably be his final start of the season.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #52
Jordan Montgomery gave up three runs in 4 2/3 innings against the Rockies on Tuesday to lose in his first start since Aug. 21.
The Diamondbacks didn’t do Montgomery any favors by having his return to the rotation come in Coors Field. He actually induced 17 missed swings tonight and had an average exit velocity against of 80.4 mph, so the outing was more encouraging than the line suggests. He’ll probably start again Sunday against the Brewers.
  • COL Shortstop #14
Ezequiel Tovar went 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBI against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
It’s pretty incredible that Tovar has been this solid with the entire league knowing that there’s absolutely no reason to ever throw him a pitch within the strike zone. He’s currently hitting .266/.293/.469 with 25 homers. If only he’d decided to steal 25 bases, too, he’d be quite a bit more famous.
  • TEX Left Fielder #36
Wyatt Langford homered, doubled twice and walked twice in the Rangers’ 13-8 defeat of the Blue Jays on Tuesday.
Now we’re talking. Langford is up to 12 homers and 25 doubles on the season. It’s not quite what some, including us, were hoping for from the 22-year-old, but it’s a pretty good year for someone who was playing in college 15 months ago. Langford is hitting .254/.324/.405 in 509 plate appearances.
  • TEX Starting Pitcher #17
Nathan Eovaldi surrendered seven runs and 11 hits over 4 2/3 innings Tuesday against the Blue Jays.
The Rangers won anyway, so it wasn’t such a bad night for Eovaldi. He also saw his 2025 player option kick in tonight, though he’ll probably decline it; he could stay with the Rangers on a one-year, $20 million deal, but he’ll probably be able to command multiple years on the open market. Eovaldi will face the A’s next Tuesday in what could be his final start of the season.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #40
Chris Bassitt surrendered seven runs, just one of which was earned, in a no-decision against the Rangers on Tuesday.
Bassitt’s own error led to one run in the third. The other five unearned runs came after Ernie Clement and Leo Jiménez combined to botch a grounder in the fourth. Bassitt gave up six hits, walked three and struck out just two, so he didn’t really deserve to have his ERA come down tonight. His next start will come against the Rays on Sunday.
  • TOR Second Baseman #36
Davis Schneider homered in a third straight game Tuesday against the Rangers.
It’s too late for Schneider to salvage his season, but a late outburst might make another team want to take a flier on him this winter. The Jays certainly don’t have to move him — he’ll make essentially the minimum again next year — but it doesn’t seem like he’s a part of their long-term plans. He’s hitting .203/.291/.366 with 13 homers in 422 plate appearances.
  • HOU Second Baseman #27
Jose Altuve was ejected from Tuesday’s game in the ninth inning after arguing that he fouled a pitch off his foot.
The umpiring crew ruled it a fair grounder instead, resulting in the final out in a tie game of the top of the ninth. Altuve shed his shoe, his sock and two inches from his listed height to try to prove that the pitch hit him, but Brennan Miller was having none of it and tossed him. It was not a reviewable play, because, well... because there’s really very little rhyme or reason about what MLB has deemed reviewable.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #45
Zack Wheeler pitched four-hit ball and allowed one run over seven innings as the Phillies bested the Brewers 5-1 on Tuesday.
Chris Sale probably has NL Cy Young honors wrapped up, but Wheeler is going to have to finish in the top three. This is his ninth straight quality start, and it makes him 16-6 with a 2.56 ERA. His also reached 200 strikeouts tonight, hitting that mark for the third time in four seasons.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #47
Frankie Montas fanned 10 while allowing three runs in 5 2/3 innings Tuesday in a loss to the Phillies.
Montas got 20 whiffs tonight and allowed only four hard-hit balls. Unfortunately, two of those left the yard. The loss leaves Montas 7-11 with a 4.50 ERA. Still, with 28 strikeouts in his last three outings, he’s throwing better than his season line suggests. He’ll probably face the Diamondbacks on Sunday, unless the Brewers decide to alter their rotation.
