Ryan Yarbrough allowed just a run in 3 2/3 relief innings against the Mets on Monday.
Yarbrough looked like he was going to get the win in this one, but the Mets scored two after he left to keep that from happening. The left-hander came in after Ryan Burr and Luis Frias worked the first 3 1/3 innings, and the only run he allowed was on a J.D. Martinez single in the fourth. That was the only hit Yarbrough allowed, and he lowered his ERA to a respectable 3.40. He’ll likely work in a similar capacity next week.

Yankees acquired RHP Michael Arias from the Cubs for cash considerations.
The 23-year-old right-hander had been designated for assignment by the Cubs earlier in the week, so they were content to flip him for anything that they could get. Arias spent the majority of the 2024 season at Triple-A Iowa where he registered a 5.45 ERA, cringe-inducing 2.09 WHIP and a 46/36 K/BB ratio across 36 1/3 innings. He’ll add bullpen depth for the Yankees but will need to improve his command substantially before getting an opportunity at the big league level.
  • WAS Left Fielder #33
Nationals signed OF Franchy Cordero to a minor league contract.
The 30-year-old slugger spent the 2024 season playing for the Seibu Lions of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball where he slashed .247/.322/.392 with nine homers, 53 RBI and a 105/43 K/BB ratio over 447 plate appearances. He’ll add outfield depth in big league camp for the Nats.
  • FA Center Fielder #15
According to Robert Murray of Fansided, the Giants have had recent discussions with free agent outfielder Randal Grichuk.
The 33-year-old lefty masher spent the 2024 season with the Diamondbacks where he slashed a robust .291/.348/.528 with 12 homers and 46 RBI in only 279 plate appearances. The Pirates are also known to have interest in his services. Grichuk still makes for a tremendous weapon against southpaws, so it’s surprising to see that there haven’t been more teams calling on him this winter.
  • COL Left Fielder #23
Rockies signed OF Nick Martini to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Martini appeared in 52 games for the Reds during the 2024 campaign, slashing .212/.272/.370 with five homers, 24 RBI, one stolen base and a 38/9 K/BB ratio over 163 plate appearances. The 34-year-old outfielder will add quality outfield depth for the Rockies, but is highly unlikely to make any sort of impact from a fantasy perspective.
  • COL Second Baseman #13
Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that the Rockies signed INF Keston Hiura to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Hiura has struggled mightily since his impressive rookie campaign with the Brewers, and the 2017 first-round pick is nothing more than organizational fodder at this stage. It would be a bit of a surprise if he was able to make Colorado out of spring training.
  • PIT Relief Pitcher #31
Pirates acquired RHP Brett de Geus from the Blue Jays for cash considerations.
The Pirates get de Geus after he was waived by the Blue Jays on Friday. He struggled in his time in the majors in 2024 with three different clubs, but he’ll give the Pirates some depth heading into 2025.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #57
Mets claimed RHP Austin Warren off waivers from the Giants.
Warren was designated for assignment after the Giants claimed Sam Huff of waivers from the Rangers. The right-handed hurler forged a 1.69 ERA in 10 2/3 innings with San Francisco, and he’ll compete for one of the final spots in the New York bullpen this spring, assuming he isn’t a 40-man casualty before the start of the season, of course.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher
Marlins acquired RHP William Kempner from the Giants for international bonus pool money.
The move will help the Giants sign their IFA class, and it’s worth noting they signed one of the biggest names in the class in Josuar De Jesus Gonzalez. Kempner is a former third-round selection out of Gonzaga who missed the 2024 season due to injury, and he’ll likely pitch at the upper levels for the Marlins assuming good health.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #61
Red Sox designated RHP Chase Shugart for assignment.
Shugart is removed from the 40-man roster after the Red Sox traded for Blake Sabol. Shugart picked up a save while making six appearances for Boston in 2024 while forging a 4.15 ERA, and he likely will see interest on the waiver wire or via trade from a team looking for pitching depth.
  • BOS Catcher #21
Red Sox acquired C Blake Sabol from the Giants for International Bonus Pool money.
Sabol was designated for assignment by San Francisco after they signed Justin Verlander on Saturday. The 27-year-old backstop can handle things behind the plate, but also is capable of playing in the outfield. That versatility gives him a good chance to make Boston after spring training, but it’s far from a lock.
