Pitching on three days’ rest after throwing four innings in relief, Spencer Bivens allowed one run over 4 1/3 innings in his start against the Padres on Sunday.
Bivens was filling in for Kyle Harrison today. He might head back to the pen when Robbie Ray gets back, but he’s been excellent in amassing a 2.77 ERA through 39 innings (two starts, 18 relief appearances). If he stays in the rotation, he’ll face the Padres again next weekend.

Maikel Garcia went 2-for-4 and hit his 12th homer as the Royals edged the Rangers 4-3 on Monday.
The Royals got all of their runs on homers from Mike Yastrzemski, Vinnie Pasquantino and Garcia. It’s Garcia’s fourth straight game with an RBI. His 12 homers in 510 plate appearances this season are one more than he totaled in 1,164 career plate appearances coming into 2025.
Wheeler placed on IL with blood clot in shoulder
With Zack Wheeler headed to the IL because of a blood clot in his shoulder, James Schiano expects an extended absence while Philadelphia loses a vital part of its rotation.
  • KC Starting Pitcher #52
Michael Wacha allowed two runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings Monday in a win over the Rangers.
After going nearly six weeks without a victory, Wacha has four in four starts to improve to 8-9 with a 3.34 ERA. His strikeout rate, which was 21.7% from 2021-24, is down to 17.7% this year, without any improvement in his groundball or walk rates. Still, hardly anyone is hitting him hard, with his home run rate standing at just less than two-thirds of what it was the previous four years. He’ll face the Tigers this weekend.
  • KC Relief Pitcher #53
Carlos Estévez turned in a scoreless ninth with a one-run lead for his 32nd save Monday against the Rangers.
Marcus Semien opened the inning with a 348-foot fly to left that would have been a homer in six parks, but Kansas City wasn’t one of them. Estévez is one behind Robert Suarez for the major league lead in saves. No one else has more than 29 saves.
  • TEX Starting Pitcher #35
Jack Leiter gave up three runs in 3 2/3 innings Monday in a loss to the Royals.
Leiter allowed two homers, four additional hits and three walks and also threw two wild pitches, so it’s pretty incredible that he got out of this allowing only three runs. Luis Curvelo stranding both runners he inherited in the fourth inning helped. Leiter has a 3.86 ERA this month, but he’s pitched a total of 16 1/3 innings in his four starts, all of which have turned into losses for the Rangers. While Leiter himself has a fair 7-7 record and a 4.06 ERA, the Rangers are 7-15 in his starts. He’s due to face the Guardians on Saturday if the team sticks with him in the rotation.
  • TEX Shortstop #8
Josh Smith went 0-for-4 with a strikeout from the leadoff spot Monday against the Royals.
It might be time for the Rangers to give Evan Carter a try at the top of the order. Smith has had a fine season, but he is currently in an 11-for-63 skid that’s dropped him down to .261/.338/.391 for the year.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #47
Red Sox optioned LHP Jovan Morán to Triple-A Worcester.
Morán has been shipped back to the minors after allowing two runs over two innings on Monday against the Orioles, leaving him with a subpar 6.75 ERA across four innings of work (two appearances). It’ll be fellow lefty Brennan Bernardino returning to the big leagues to take his spot in Boston’s bullpen.
  • BAL 2nd Baseman #11
Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said late Monday that he believes Jordan Westburg’s right ankle injury is mild.
Mansolino added that they’ll have additional information ahead of Tuesday’s contest, but early indications are that Westburg isn’t dealing with anything too serious. The 26-year-old infielder was lifted from Monday’s series opener with right ankle discomfort. He’s day-to-day for now.
  • BAL Shortstop #2
Gunnar Henderson homered and tripled in a run as the Orioles bested the Red Sox 6-3 on Monday.
The triple, a liner into the corner in right field, should have been a double and an error on Roman Anthony, but we suppose that hardly matters. Both that and the homer were crushed at 110.6 and 108.0 mph, respectively. The homer was his third of the month, which obviously doesn’t count the grand slam he barely missed out on in Houston yesterday.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #28
Trevor Rogers held the Red Sox to one run and four hits over seven innings in a victory Monday.
He struck out seven and had 15 whiffs with a 34% CSW in his latest gem. Rogers has allowed exactly one run in four straight starts and a total of nine runs in his last 10 turns. It’s one of the most stunning developments of the season, and it shows no real sign of ending. He’ll face the slumping Astros on Sunday.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #78
Yennier Cano gave up one run in the ninth in finishing off Monday’s win over the Red Sox.
The Orioles had lefty Dietrich Enns pitch the eighth with a 4-1 lead tonight, and after he got through it scoreless, he stayed in to face Roman Anthony in a 6-1 game in the ninth. Anthony singled, at which point Cano entered. Cano went on to walk Nathaniel Lowe and give up a two-run double to Jarren Duran with two outs before getting Ceddanne Rafaela to ground out to end it. It wasn’t a save situation for Cano, but the way things played out suggests he would have gotten one had the Orioles not increased their lead in the ninth.
