  • ARI Shortstop #10

Jordan Lawlar (hamstring) is hitting second and playing shortstop for Double-A Amarillo on Sunday.
Lawlar is working his way back from the hamstring injury that has sidelined him for the overwhelming majority of the season. The 22-year-old is expected to report back to Triple_A soon, but it seems unlikely that he’ll play for the Diamondbacks in 2024. He’s definitely still an upside play in the future.

Recalled as Germán Márquez’s replacement before the game, Tanner Gordon hurled six scoreless innings Wednesday in the Rockies’ 6-0 shutout of the Cardinals.
Kyle Freeland pitched six scoreless innings against the Rays on Opening Day. Márquez did the same versus the Phillies on the final day of March. And now, 96 games later, another Rockies starter has thrown six shutout frames. Plus, unlike the previous two times, the Rockies actually won the game. Gordon, who struck out three and walked three, moved to 2-2 with a 3.13 ERA, which would warrant immediate induction to the Rockies Hall of Fame if such a thing existed. He’ll surely stay in the rotation after this, lining him up to face the Guardians next week.
Mets' Baty has 'turned a corner' in July
With strong numbers across the board through July, Brett Baty has "turned a corner" for fantasy managers and the Mets, leading James Schiano to lay out a promising rest-of-season outlook for the young infielder.
  • STL Relief Pitcher #53
Andre Pallante surrendered five runs and eight hits in five innings against the Rockies on Wednesday.
Pallante has given up 17 earned runs over 15 2/3 innings in his last three starts, all of which were against non-contenders. He’s dropped to 5-7 with a 4.91 ERA, and one wonders if he might be the next pitcher to get the boot from the St. Louis rotation. He’s slated to face the Marlins next time out.
  • STL 3rd Baseman #28
Nolan Arenado went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Wednesday in the loss to the Rockies.
Arenado’s latest series at his old home in Coors concludes with him going 3-for-12 with a double and an RBI. That’s a pretty typical series for him this year; he’s batting .244, and he’s totaled 26 extra-base hits and 43 RBI in 103 games. The defense is still very good, but he’s only going to be viewed a fallback option for teams at the deadline, and everyone knows he’s very limited in possible destinations anyway.
  • CHC Left Fielder #30
Kyle Tucker was held out of the lineup for Wednesday’s series finale against the Royals with a right knee contusion.
Cubs manager Craig Counsell told reporters he anticipates Tucker returning to the lineup for Friday’s series opener against the White Sox. The 28-year-old fantasy superstar suffered the injury on Tuesday night when he fouled a ball off his right knee. It doesn’t sound like a significant concern, but fantasy managers should be on alert for Friday’s lineup card.
  • SF 1st Baseman #88
Giants 1B prospect Bryce Eldridge clobbered a walk-off solo homer on Wednesday for Triple-A Sacramento.
Eldridge has homered in back-to-back games and is now up to five round-trippers in just 21 games this season at the Triple-A level. The 20-year-old power-hitting prospect returned to the doorstep of the majors last Friday after missing three weeks with a right hamstring strain. It’s not out of the question that he could receive a late-season call-up to San Francisco, but he’s unlikely to make a significant fantasy impact until next season.
  • SF 3rd Baseman #26
X-rays came back negative after Matt Chapman was removed from Wednesday’s game against Atlanta with a left elbow contusion.
It looks like Chapman avoided a serious injury after taking a pitch off the left elbow in the seventh inning of Wednesday’s blowout win over Atlanta. The 32-year-old slugging third baseman went 1-for-2 with his 14th homer before exiting. Fantasy managers can consider him day-to-day heading into Friday’s series opener against the Mets.
  • TEX Catcher #11
Kyle Higashioka has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain and is officially day-to-day.
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday that they’re going to give Higashioka a chance to avoid the injured list, but he’s not going to be available for at least a couple days. It’ll be rookie Cody Freeman pressed into emergency duty, if necessary. The positive news here is that it’s a relatively mild strain.
  • TB 2nd Baseman #7
Ha-Seong Kim (back) remains out of the lineup for the second consecutive game on Wednesday against the White Sox.
Kim will sit out his second straight contest after exiting Monday’s series opener with lower back tightness. The 29-year-old middle infielder has dealt with three separate physical issues since making his season debut back on July 3. He’s managed to avoid a return to the injured list so far. There’s a chance he’s ready for Friday’s series opener in Cincinnati. It’ll be Taylor Walls filling in at shortstop once again on Wednesday evening.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #26
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Wednesday that Tony Gonsolin (elbow) has yet to resume a throwing program.
Roberts acknowledged that time is running out for Gonsolin to return this season, saying, “We’re going to have to make a decision with Tony soon. I’m not sure what that is, but we’re going to have to make a decision at some point.” The 31-year-old righty landed on the injured list in early June with elbow discomfort. While there’s no UCL damage requiring surgery, it’s looking increasingly unlikely that he’ll pitch again in 2025.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #78
Ben Casparius is hoping to avoid the injured list after an MRI on his right calf didn’t reveal any structural damage.
Casparius was lifted from Tuesday’s relief outing against the Twins at Dodger Stadium with a right calf cramp. It’s unclear whether he’ll ultimately require a trip to the injured list, but that’ll likely come down to whether he’s able to resume throwing at some point later this week. There should be a definitive update on his status soon, but he doesn’t appear to be a facing a lengthy absence.
