Patrick Corbin was tagged for seven runs in six innings Sunday in a loss to the Pirates.
Joey Bart, Andrew McCutchen and Michael A. Taylor all took him deep. Corbin had won three starts in a row, and the loss today was his first since he fell to 2-12 on Aug. 5. Even so, he’s now back alone atop the NL in losses. Teammate Jake Irvin and the out-of-action Dakota Hudson have 12 defeats apiece.

Michael Kopech (knee) has resumed a throwing program.
Kopech underwent surgery last week to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, and was placed on the 60-day injured list. The right-hander will be eligible to return in August, and could be a high-leverage option for the Dodgers’ bullpen by the end of 2025.
Alvarez looking 'more like himself' in Triple-A
Francisco Alvarez has found his bat in Triple-A after a "shocking," yet deserved demotion, and James Schiano details how the Mets catcher is looking "more like himself" after significant regression.

Tyler Heineman had a two-run homer and an RBI double Saturday in leading the Blue Jays past the Giants 6-3.
He was also hit by a pitch. The oft-DFA’d Heineman has been a revelation this season, hitting .341/.396/.518 in 98 plate appearances while playing behind All-Star Alejandro Kirk. His three homers are two more than he had in 287 career plate appearances coming into the year.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #56
Eric Lauer pitched six innings of two-run ball and struck out seven Saturday against the Giants.
Lauer actually faced just two over the minimum today; Willy Adames homered off him in the fifth, and the Giants scored once more on a leadoff double and two flyballs in the sixth. Those were the only two hits, and there were no walks. It’s just the second time in nine starts that Lauer has been given a chance to finish six innings. The Jays seems to be increasingly confident in him, and it’s easy to see why, as he’s now 5-2 with a 2.80 ERA and a 26% strikeout rate. He’s a mixed-league option at this point, but he’s not a great play with the Tigers next on the schedule.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #23
Jeff Hoffman threw a scoreless ninth with a three-run lead for his 23rd save Saturday against the Giants.
Hoffman has closed out 4-0 and 6-3 games the last two days, so he might be down if there’s a closer one Sunday. Yariel Rodríguez could get a save chance then.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #62
Logan Webb surrendered four runs in six innings Saturday in a loss to the Blue Jays.
Webb was hit pretty hard throughout, but he kept finding his way out of jams until the sixth, when all four runs were produced by two singles and three doubles (the last of which should have been caught by a diving Heliot Ramos in left field). It’s the second straight start in which Webb has allowed at least four earned runs, something that happened just once in his first 19 outings, and his ERA is over 3.00 for the first time since his second start of the year. We wouldn’t normally be concerned, but his velocity was down a little today and he wound up with just one strikeout and three missed swings. That’s a little worrisome.
  • TOR 3rd Baseman #47
Addison Barger went 4-for-4 with a double against the Giants on Saturday.
The double probably ought to have been a fourth single, but neither Jung-Hoo Lee nor Luis Matos played the liner to right-center very enthusiastically and it wound up going to the wall. Barger’s hits ranged from 98 to 108 mph. His average is sitting at .273, a massive improvement over last year’s mark of .197 in 225 plate appearances.
  • SF Shortstop #2
Willy Adames hit two solo homers Saturday in the loss Blue Jays.
The three guys ahead of him combined to go 0-for-11, so they kind of had to be solo shots. Adames is batting .314 with five homers and 14 RBI in 14 games this month. No other Giants player has more than one homer or six RBI in July.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #22
Bryan Woo will start Sunday’s game against the Astros.
Woo gets a full break after pitching in the All-Star Game, and he’ll get the nod for Sunday’s finale while facing off against Framber Valdez. Woo was outstanding prior to the break with a 2.75 ERA and 8-4 record.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters that Justin Slaten (shoulder) has resumed playing catch.
Slaten was pulled off his throwing program a week ago to help rebuild strength, and now is feeling well enough to return to his rehab program. Slaten could be an option for the Red Sox for the final month-plus of 2025.
  • PHI 3rd Baseman #37
Phillies recalled OF Weston Wilson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Wilson is up with Alec Bohm (rib) placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Wilson could see some playing time at third and in the outfield against left-handed pitching.
