  • BOS Shortstop #10

Red Sox activated SS Trevor Story from the 60-day injured list.
Story returns to Boston’s lineup following a five-month absence recovering from mid-April shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum. The 31-year-old showed no signs of rust on his brief four-game minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester, batting .375 (6-for-16) with one extra base hit and one stolen base. We’re not ready to add him in shallow mixed leagues, but he’s probably going to make an impact in deeper mixed leagues and AL-only formats over the final few weeks of the year. The biggest impact here from a fantasy standpoint in Ceddanne Rafaela potentially picking up second-base eligibility heading into 2025 as he’ll spent some time at the keystone to close out the year with Story back in the fold.
  • LAA Shortstop #2

Luis Rengifo is absent from the Angels’ starting lineup for Friday night’s skirmish against the Athletics.
There doesn’t appear to be anything wrong physically with the versatile 28-year-old, it looks to be just a routine night off. Christian Moore will start in his place at second base and bat eighth against A’s right-hander Jack Perkins.
Padres put King back on IL, this time for knee
James Schiano discusses San Diego Padres' Michael King, who has been placed back on the Injured List for knee inflammation, explaining why this is a cause for concern.
  • LAD 3rd Baseman #13
Dodgers placed INF Max Muncy on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain.
Muncy was diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain and while he’s expected to be out longer than the minimum of 10 days, he is not expected to miss the remainder of the regular season. Buddy Kennedy — who was claimed off of waivers from the Blue Jays — will add infield depth for the Dodgers while Muncy is shelved.
  • COL Shortstop #14
Ezequiel Tovar is not in the Rockies’ starting lineup for Friday night’s soiree against the Diamondbacks.
It appears to be just a routine day of rest for the 24-year-old shortstop. Ryan Ritter was activated from the injured list prior to the game and he’ll start at shortstop and bat ninth against Brandon Pfaadt and the Diamondbacks on Friday evening at Coors Field.
  • NYY 1st Baseman #48
Paul Goldschmidt was held out of the Yankees’ lineup for a second consecutive game on Friday evening due to soreness in his right knee.
The 37-year-old first baseman banged his knee on the ground after he slipped while trying to catch a foul pop during Wednesday’s game against the Twins. He’s still considered day-to-day. Cody Bellinger will cover first base on Friday night while Jose Caballero will draw a rare start in right field and bat ninth against Andre Pallante and the Cardinals.
  • MIN Right Fielder #19
Alan Roden (thumb) was scratched from the Twins’ starting lineup for Friday night’s tilt against the Tigers.
The 25-year-old outfielder aggravated his jammed left thumb when he slid (unsuccessfully) into home plate during the 10th inning of Thursday’s loss to the Tigers. He’s considered day-to-day.
  • HOU Shortstop #3
Jeremy Peña was held out of the Astros’ starting lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Orioles due to illness.
The 27-year-old shortstop tried to give it a go during warmups but wasn’t feeling up to it, so he’s being looked at by the Astros’ team doctors to determine exactly what’s going on there. Mauricio Dubon will start in his place and bat eighth for the Astros against Brandon Young and the O’s. Peña should be considered day-to-day.
  • SEA 1st Baseman #12
Josh Naylor is not in the Mariners’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Mets.
It appears to be just a routine night off with left-hander Sean Manaea toeing the slab for the Mets. Naylor has been terrific in his first 18 games with the M’s, slashing .292/.352/.523 with four homers, 10 RBI and a whopping 11 stolen bases in 72 plate appearances. Donovan Solano will start at first base and bat seventh for the M’s on Friday evening in New York.
  • CIN 2nd Baseman #9
Matt McLain is not in the Reds’ starting lineup for Friday night’s contest against the Brewers.
The Reds have already dropped the slumping second baseman back down in their lineup and now he’s out of the lineup entirely on Friday night. Gavin Lux will cover second base in his place and will bat fifth against Brewers’ right-hander Jacob Misiorowski on Friday evening in Cincinnati.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #50
Astros sent RHP Hector Neris outright to Triple-A Sugar Land.
It remains to be seen if the 36-year-old hurler will actually accept the outright assignment or decide to peddle his wares on the open market instead. Neris has struggled to a 6.75 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and a 35/16 K/BB ratio over 26 2/3 innings in the big leagues this season.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #37
Guardians sent RHP Trevor Stephan outright to Triple-A Columbus.
The 29-year-old hurler is in the process of working his way back from Tommy John surgery after missing the entire 2024 season. He has struggled over 15 minor league appearances this season, posting a 9.22 ERA, 1.90 WHIP and a 15/9 K/BB ratio over 13 2/3 innings. He’ll continue to build back up at Triple-A Columbus.
