  • TEX Relief Pitcher #65
Rangers placed RHP Grant Anderson on 15-day injured list, retroactive to. Sept. 5, with a right ankle contusion.
Anderson will lose a couple of weeks after he was hit by a comebacker in the ninth inning of Wednesday’s game. He has an 8.10 ERA in 26 2/3 innings out of the Rangers pen this season.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #65
Nestor Cortes (elbow) will play catch Sunday ahead of Game 2 of the ALDS against the Royals on Monday.
Cortes (elbow) will be throwing for the first time since being shut down on September 25 with his flexor strain. It’s unlikely that Cortes will return during the Yankees’ postseason run, but he hasn’t completely been ruled out just yet.
  • NYY Center Fielder #24
Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters that Alex Verdugo will start again in left field against the Royals in Game 2 of the ALDS on Monday.
Verdugo got the start in Game 1 and drove in the go-ahead run while going 2-for-3 in the victory. Jasson Dominguez will all-but-assuredly begin the game on the bench again. Verdugo struggled in the regular season, but it appears the Yankees want to go with the experienced option to begin the postseason.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #59
Sean Manaea will start Game 3 of the NLDS against the Phillies on Tuesday.
That start will be made on regular rest. His last playoff start was Wednesday when he went five innings and allowed two runs in Game 2 against the Brewers. He’ll go up against Aaron Nola in a pivotal Game 3 contest.
  • NYM Designated Hitter #28
J.D. Martinez is hitting sixth as the designated hitters Sunday for Game 2 of the NLDS against the Phillies.
Martinez gets the nod over Jesse Winker with the team facing southpaw Cristopher Sanchez. Harrison Bader also gets a start in favor of Tyrone Taylor. The full lineup for the Mets as they look to take a 2-0 lead: SS Francisco Lindor, 3B Mark Vientos, LF Brandon Nimmo, 2B Jose Iglesias, DH Martinez, RF Starling Marte, C Francisco Alvarez and RF Bader.
  • PHI Third Baseman #28
The slumping Alec Bohm is out of the Phillies lineup in favor of Edmundo Sosa for Sunday’s Game 2.
This is really surprising, but Bohm has had a tough time in recent months, finishing with a .502 OPS in September after coming in at .688 in August. He also went 0-for-4 in Saturday’s Game 1 loss. The lineup: DH Kyle Schwarber, SS Trea Turner, 1B Bryce Harper, RF Nick Castellanos, 2B Bryson Stott, C J.T. Realmuto, LF Brandon Marsh, 3B Sosa, CF Johan Rojas.
  • LAD First Baseman #5
Freddie Freeman (ankle) picked up a pair of hits in Game 1 of the NLDS against the Padres on Saturday.
Freeman was considered questionable for the contest, but he was able to pick up a couple of knocks, and showed things can’t be bothering him too much with an uncontested stolen base. He nearly came up with a third hit but was robbed Donovan Solano with the bases loaded. It’s a great sign for the Dodgers that Freeman looked healthy in this contest.
  • SD Third Baseman #13
Manny Machado hit a two-run homer in a loss to the Dodgers on Saturday in Game 1 of the NLDS.
Machado extended the Padres’ lead to 3-0 in the first with a two-run homer off Yoshinobu Yamamoto. That’s the first postseason homer for Machado in 2024, and the 11th of his career. He did come up empty in a big situation as the go-ahead runner in the ninth with a strikeout, the Padres aren’t in the game without Machado’s roundtripper.
  • LAD Designated Hitter #17
Shohei Ohtani hit a three-run homer in a 7-5 win for the Dodgers over the Padres on Saturday in Game 1 of the NLDS.
Welcome to the postseason, Shohei. Ohtani not only picked up the three-run homer, but it was a big one that tied the game at 3-3 in the second inning. He also had a broken-bat single and came around to score on a Teoscar Hernandez poke. It’s just a continuation to a spectacular season for Ohtani, and the Dodgers have a critical 1-0 lead against their division rivals.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #49
Blake Treinen went 1 2/3 innings without giving up a run to get a save against the Padres in Game 1 of the NLDS against the Padres on Saturday.
The Dodgers were forced to turn to Treinen with Michael Kopech unable to throw strikes with one out in the eighth, and he was able to get out of that jam. He created his own and put the go-ahead run at the plate in the ninth, but he struck out Manny Machado to get the final out. Treinen had to throw 39 pitches, so there’s a good chance he will not be available for Game 2 against the Padres on Sunday.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #84
Dylan Cease went 3 1/3 innings and allowed five runs while not qualifying for a decision against the Dodgers on Saturday in Game 1 of the NLDS.
Cease was handed five runs of support, but he wasn’t able to protect a pair of multiple-run leads. A 3-0 lead became a 3-3 game when he allowed a three-run homer to Shohei Ohtani, and he was charged for two more runs in the fourth after being pulled. He did strikeout five, but Cease was certainly not up to the task Saturday. He likely will be back in Game 5 of the NLDS, if necessary, but could be back on short rest in Game 4.
