Padres optioned LHP Tom Cosgrove to Triple-A El Paso.
Cosgrove didn’t pitch in two days with the Padres. It’s been a rough go for him in 2024 after he performed as one of baseball’s best rookie relievers last year, amassing a 1.75 ERA in 51 1/3 innings.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Braves are finalizing a contract with free agent outfielder Jurickson Profar.
No word yet on the financials or the terms of the contract, but it’s a terrific addition for the Braves. The 31-year-old resurrected his career with the Padres in 2024, slashing .280/.380/.459 with 24 homers, 85 RBI and 10 stolen bases across a career-high 668 plate appearances. Profar’s arrival will likely push Jarred Kelenic back to a short-side platoon role once Ronald Acuna Jr. is up and running and will also block the playing time of Bryan De La Cruz.
  • CWS Shortstop #85
White Sox’ general manager Chris Getz told reporters on Thursday that Colson Montgomery will be given the opportunity to win the team’s starting shortstop job out of spring training.
Getz elaborated, “He’s going to get a lot of opportunity come Spring Training. We expect to see Colson Montgomery playing shortstop for the White Sox at some point this year.” The expectation has always been that the 22-year-old top prospect would get a chance in 2025, so it’s good to hear that the White Sox’ brass doesn’t view Brooks Baldwin as a major obstacle. Montgomery is still going outside the top 525 picks in early fantasy drafts where he may wind up looking like a substantial value when all is said and done.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #33
Mets signed LHP A.J. Minter to a two-year, $22 million contract.
The deal, which was agreed to last Friday, is now official now that Minter has passed his physical. The deal does include a player opt-out after the 2025 season. The 31-year-old southpaw is one of the setup men in all of baseball and will help to provide a bridge in the Mets’ bullpen to dominant closer Edwin Diaz.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #0
Jack Flaherty mentioned on Foul Territory on Thursday that he is open to a reunion with the Tigers.
The free agent right-hander is still searching for a new home with only 20 days remaining until pitchers and catchers report for spring training. Of the Tigers, he mentioned, “We had conversations. I loved it there. I thought the combo of me and Skub (Tarik Skubal) was incredible.. We’ve been talking to them and talking to other teams. It would be fun to go back there.” The Blue Jays, Cubs and Giants have also been linked to Flaherty over the past couple of weeks and the 29-year-old hurler is reportedly considering a short-term contract with a high average annual value, which could bring other teams into the mix as well.
  • NYY Relief Pitcher #57
Yankees claimed RHP Roansy Contreras off waivers from the Orioles.
Contreras is the second waiver claim for the Yankees on Thursday, as they also swooped up Allan Winans from Atlanta. Contreras is returning to the New York organization as a former Top 100 prospect who has procured a 4.72 ERA over 234 2/3 innings across 90 games. He’ll try and win a spot as a multi-inning relief option this spring.
  • BOS Catcher #68
Kiley McDaniel of ESPN reports that the Red Sox signed C Mark Kolozvary to a minor league contract.
The deal includes an invitation to spring training. It’s a return to the organization for Kolosvary after he played 27 games for Triple-A Worcester in 2024 with a .703 OPS. While he could spend time with the Red Sox, it’s more likely he is just a depth piece who helps work with the pitchers on the Woo Sox roster.
  • TB Relief Pitcher #60
Rays acquired LHP Brandon Eisert from the Blue Jays in exchange for cash considerations.
Eisert was booted off the 40-man roster by Toronto after the the Blue Jays signed Anthony Santander. Eisert should get a chance to compete for a bullpen spot, but the 27-year-old faces an uphill battle for anything significant.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #72
Yankees claimed RHP Allan Winans off waivers from the Braves.
Winans was designated for assignment by Atlanta after the Braves claimed Amos Willingham off waivers. Winans, 29, will get a chance to compete for one of the final spots in the New York bullpen.
  • MIL Relief Pitcher #50
Brewers sent RHP JB Bukauskas outright to Triple-A Nashville.
Bukauskas went unclaimed after the Brewers designated the right-hander for assignment. The 28-year-old former first-round pick gives the Brewers a depth option for the 2025 campaign but not much else.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #66
Dodgers signed LHP Tanner Scott to a four-year, $72 million contract.
Scott comes to the Dodgers after being one of the most dominant left-handed relievers in the sport over the last few seasons. The 30-year-old has dealt with control issues and that isn’t likely to change, but his ability to miss bats and the fact that he could be saving games for the best team in baseball make his fantasy appeal considerable.
