Max Meyer was torched for five runs over 5 2/3 innings on Tuesday in a loss to the Nationals.
Meyer surrendered nine hits, including homers to Joey Gallo and Keibert Ruiz, which accounted for the majority of the damage against him. He struck out five and only handed out one free pass, throwing his changeup only 15 percent of the time in this one. The 25-year-old rookie right-hander has a promising future ahead of him, but he’s taking his lumps at the moment, struggling to a lackluster 5.68 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 46/19 K/BB ratio across 57 innings (11 starts). He’ll aim to turn things around on Sunday in a home outing against the Phillies.
