Brayan Bello surrendered four runs in five innings Monday in a loss to the Mets.
Nine of the 17 balls in play that Bello allowed tonight were hit hard, and while the three hardest of those actually turned into four outs, the others did some damage. Bello dropped to 12-7 with a 4.75 ERA, but he’ll probably bounce back next time out against the White Sox.

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Friday that Evan Carter has been diagnosed with a fractured right wrist and will likely miss the remainder of the season.
It’s a brutal development for the Rangers, and fantasy managers, as Carter was in the midst of a strong season — when healthy. The 22-year-old former top prospect, who suffered the injury on Thursday when he was hit by a pitch, will likely miss the final five weeks of the season and finishes with a .728 OPS with five homers and 14 steals in 63 games. He’s shown flashes of immense fantasy potential over the last few years, but continues to be snake-bitten by injuries.
Rangers skipping deGrom's next start is 'ominous'
James Schiano analyzes the Rangers skipping Jacob deGrom's next start due to shoulder fatigue, sharing why it is "hard not to be terrified" that this update "could be the end to a fantastic comeback season" for deGrom.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #88
Giants recalled LHP Carson Whisenhunt from Triple-A Sacramento.
Whisenhunt is not a recommended streaming option for fantasy purposes when he faces the red-hot Brewers on Friday night. The 24-year-old lefty will replace an injured Landen Roupp (knee) in San Francisco’s rotation over the final five weeks. He offers enough strikeout potential to be worth monitoring in deeper mixed leagues, but he’s more of a wait-and-see prospect in shallow formats.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #65
Giants placed RHP Landen Roupp on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to August 21, with left knee inflammation.
The extremely encouraging development here is that it appears Roupp didn’t suffer a more serious knee injury when he had to be carted off the field during Wednesday’s start against the Padres. The 26-year-old righty is likely done for the remainder of the season, but the fact that an initial MRI didn’t reveal an ACL tear or structural damage puts him on track to be ready for spring training. He’ll likely undergo further testing, but the initial diagnosis is encouraging.
  • ARI Catcher #11
Diamondbacks designated C Jose Herrera for assignment.
Herrera has been removed from Arizona’s 40-man roster to make room for starting backstop Gabriel Moreno to return from the 60-day injured list. The 28-year-old catcher batted .187 (31-for-166) with two homers and 17 RBI in 57 games this season for Arizona.
  • NYM Catcher #18
Mets signed C Ali Sánchez to a minor league contract.
Sánchez fortifies New York’s catching depth with Francisco Alvarez on the injured list recovering from a UCL sprain in his right thumb. The 28-year-old journeyman backstop was removed from Boston’s 40-man roster earlier this week.
  • ARI Catcher #14
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Friday in an interview with MLB Network Radio that Gabriel Moreno (finger) is penciled in the lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Reds.
Moreno has been out since mid-June recovering from a fractured right index finger. He’ll stabilize Arizona’s catching situation, but he’s been a significant disappointment from a pure fantasy perspective this season with a .738 OPS and five homers in 53 games.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #40
The Athletic’s Dan Hayes reports Mick Abel traveled with the Twins and could potentially start on Saturday against the Cubs.
Zebby Matthews is starting Friday’s series opener at Wrigley Field. Abel is coming off a dominant outing last Saturday at Triple-A St. Paul where he punched out 11 batters over six innings. The 23-year-old pitching prospect showed some potential earlier this season in a handful of starts with the Phillies before being included in last month’s Jhoan Duran blockbuster at the trade deadline. There’s some streaming appeal here for fantasy managers in deeper mixed leagues, even though it’s a tough matchup in a hitter-friendly environment.
  • CIN Relief Pitcher
Reds selected the contract of Zach Maxwell from Triple-A Louisville.
Luis Mey was sent down Thursday to open up a spot for Maxwell, who will be making his major league debut three years after the Reds drafted him in the sixth round out of Georgia Tech. Maxwell had a 3.17 ERA and a 59/32 K/BB in 49 2/3 innings out of the pen for Louisville. He averages 99 mph with his fastball, but poor control has always been an issue, and it would take some sort of breakthrough there to turn him into a quality late-game reliever.
  • CIN Relief Pitcher #79
Reds transferred RHP Ian Gibaut from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list.
Gibaut recently had labrum surgery that is surely going to cost him the rest of the year. The 31-year-old had a 4.62 ERA in 25 relief appearances for the Reds this season.
  • BAL Catcher #29
The Orioles and Samuel Basallo are finalizing an eight-year, $67 million contract extension, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
The long-term agreement, which kicks in next season, includes a club option for 2034 and maxes out at $88.5 million. Universally regarded as one of the game’s elite prospects, Basallo arrived in the majors last weekend and projects as a middle-of-the-order run producer. The 21-year-old prodigy will open his career with some run behind the plate, but a long-term move to first base feels inevitable to reduce injury risk. With top-of-the-scale raw power, the ability to consistently generate hard contact, and respectable plate skills, he profiles as a top-tier fantasy catcher for 2026 and beyond.
