Jace Jung is batting cleanup Thursday for the first time as a major leaguer.
The Tigers are pretty lefty heavy since adding Jung and Trey Sweeney to their lineup, and they’re really leaning into it today against the Angels, with Zach McKinstry starting and Matt Vierling on the bench to begin the game. No. 6 hitter Spencer Torkelson and No. 9 hitter Dillon Dingler are the only righties in the lineup. Jung is batting .243/.364/.270 with just one extra-base hit in 44 plate appearances since his callup, though he does have four hits and two walks in his last three games.

Rockies claimed RHP Jimmy Herget off waivers from the Cubs.
Herget was designated for assignment after the Cubs added Rob Zastryzny on Monday. Herget will have a chance to compete for a spot in the Colorado bullpen, assuming he sticks around.
  • LAA Shortstop #9
Angels general manager Perry Minasian told reporters that Zach Neto underwent shoulder surgery this week.
Neto missed most of the end of the season while dealing with shoulder issues, and the 23-year-old shortstop will go under the knife after he wasn’t able to fix the issue through rehab. Minasian wasn’t sure if Neto would need to miss time to begin the year, so it’s something to monitor for those who are considering Neto as a helper up the middle on their fantasy team.
  • STL Third Baseman #28
Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch reports that the Cardinals are expected to gauge interest in Nolan Arenado on the trade market.
Arenado is still owed $74 million over the next three seasons, and the 33-year-old has seen his numbers decrease since leaving the friendly confines of Coors Field. The Cardinals would likely need to eat a significant amount of salary in order to get a quality return, but teams who need third baseman should have interest as he’s still a strong defender and capable of above-average offensive numbers.
  • FA Third Baseman #44
Elehuris Montero has signed a one-year contract with the Hiroshima Carp of the Nippon Professional Baseball league.
The deal will pay Montero $850,000 with a $400,00 signing bonus. Elehuris was outrighted off the Colorado roster after hitting just .228/.277/.387 in 2024 with the Rockies, and the 26-year-old will try and get his career back on the upswing with at least one year in Japan.
  • NYM Center Fielder #15
Tyrone Taylor underwent an umbilical hernia repair as well on October 30 and also underwent a right elbow loose body removal Thursday.
The Mets announced those operations for Taylor on Friday, and also said that the average timeline for return for both operations was around two months. That should put the outfielder back in plenty of time for spring training, but obviously a complication with either injury could see that timeline change.
  • CWS Relief Pitcher #49
White Sox signed RHP Justin Dunn to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Dunn didn’t pitch in 2024 after undergoing surgery in 2024 on his right shoulder. The former top prospect will head to Chicago in hopes of winning a spot on the Chicago pitching staff, but more than likely the 29-year-old will just provide some organizational depth.
  • NYY Manager
Yankees exercised manager Aaron Boone’s option for 2025.
It was thought the two sides were working on a multiyear deal, but that hasn’t come to fruition, at least not yet. Boone’s Yankees reached the World Series last season, losing in five games to the Dodgers. His team is 603-429 in his seven years at the helm, but just 22-23 in six postseason appearances.

Angels designated RHP Ryan Miller for assignment.
The Halos needed to free up a spot on their 40-man roster for Kyle Hendricks and unfortunately Miller was the odd-man out this time around. The 28-year-old right-hander made his big-league debut with the Angels in 2024, registering a 4.15 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and an 11/8 K/BB ratio over his 13 frames. There’s a decent chance that he’ll pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as extra bullpen depth for the Angels at the Triple-A level.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #28
Angels signed RHP Kyle Hendricks to a one-year, $2.5 million contract.
The deal, which was agreed to on Wednesday, is now official. The 34-year-old hurler struggled to a 5.92 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and an 87/43 K/BB ratio over 130 2/3 innings in 29 appearances (24 starts) for the Cubs during the 2024 season. While he’s not a frontline starter, the Angels need all of the help that they can get in their starting rotation and Hendricks should prove to be a valuable innings eater. The major lack of strikeouts make him irrelevant in most fantasy formats.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #34
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, right-hander Noah Syndergaard has dropped 30 pounds and is eyeing a comeback to the big leagues in 2025.
The 32-year-old right-hander has been working out in Texas since the summer and is hopeful for a return to a big-league rotation in 2025. The last time we saw Syndergaard on the mound he registered a 6.50 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and a 56/19 K/BB ratio across 88 2/3 innings between the Guardians and Dodgers during the 2023 campaign. Stranger things have happened, but Syndergaard’s return to fantasy relevance seems highly unlikely.
