Corbin Burnes allowed six runs -- one earned -- with four strikeouts over five innings in a loss to the Dodgers on Wednesday.
Burnes surrendered a leadoff homer to Shohei Ohtani in the first inning. That would be the only earned run charged to the 29-year-old right-hander. The Dodgers would bring four more runs in to score after an error in the third inning, including a three-run homer by Teoscar Hernández. One more error would allow a sixth run to score in the fifth before Burnes’ day was done after 94 pitches. He struck out four. Burnes will take a 3.23 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and a 150/40 K/BB ratio across 164 1/3 innings into a start against the White Sox in Baltimore on Monday.
