Warren will make his Giants debut when he gets into a game after missing the first couple months of the year recovering from last year’s Tommy John surgery. The 28-year-old righty has pitched well in 32 relief appearances in the big leagues dating back to 2021.

He will play Thursday. Stanton is healthy, but the Yankees seem to think their better off with Alex Verdugo in the outfield and Aaron Judge at DH in these matchups against tough right-handers. Stanton is in a 4-for-34 slump at the moment, though he did go 3-for-8 with two RBI and three walks against the Red Sox over the weekend.

Dobnak has reemerged this year as someone who might be adequate as a middle reliever and spot starter, but since he’s guaranteed $3 million next year, there was no chance of him being claimed on waivers. He had a 5.87 ERA over 7 2/3 innings in his return to the majors last month.

Woodford will make his return to the rotation tonight against the Cardinals. He was 0-4 with a 6.95 ERA in four starts and two relief appearances for the Pirates before being removed from the 40-man last month.

Retroactive or not, he won’t be eligible to pitch again this season. Nicolas had a 3.95 ERA and a 55/31 K/BB in 54 2/3 innings out of the Pirates pen.

Heller has been out since Aug. 30 with shoulder inflammation. He had an 11.25 ERA in eight relief appearances for the Pirates this season, taking his career ERA from 3.06 in 50 prior appearances to 4.65.

Carroll had two homers through 87 games this season. He has 19 in 61 games since. His average (.235) and steal total (29) are still well down from last year, but it’s remarkable how similar to 2023 the rest of his numbers look now, given where he was three months ago.

Rodriguez had no problems with Coors Field, turning in his highest strikeout total since 2019. He allowed hard-hit balls to just two of the 25 batters he faced, and it was simply unfortunate that four of the five singles he gave up came in a five-batter span in the third inning. Rodriguez is 3-3 with a 5.09 ERA. He’s currently slated to make two starts next week against the Giants and Padres, but that could change if the Diamondbacks clinch.

Gomber, who had completed six innings in six straight starts, suffered his earliest exit of the year today. He took the loss to fall to 5-11 with a 4.67 ERA. His final start will come at home against the Cardinals next week.

It’s tough beating what the Diamondbacks have received from their Joc Pederson-Grichuk platoon this season. Grichuk is 15-for-33 with six homers and 15 RBI this month, putting him at .292/.346/.525 for the season. Considering that his OPS is over .800 in limited action against right-handers, some teams might look at him as a regular this winter.

This was how the rotation was initially set up, but Lance Lynn was angling to come back on Sunday for the home finale. Now that Lynn is on the IL, Pallante is the confirmed starter. Steven Matz could get a start next week in Lynn’s place.
