  • PIT Starting Pitcher #46
Pirates designated RHP Jake Woodford for assignment.
Woodford is 0-6 with an 8.01 ERA for the White Sox and Pirates this season. Based on those results, it doesn’t seem all that likely that someone will claim him. Still, he is stretched out and can eat innings if that happens to be any team’s priority.
  • SEA Third Baseman #4
Josh Rojas is making a ninth straight start at third base for the Mariners on Friday.
The Mariners aren’t interested in trying anything new right now; the only variation in their starting lineup these last six games was a result of Victor Robles missing two days. Luis Urías last played third base over Rojas on Sept. 4, which was also the last time the Mariners faced a lefty. Urías had a homer, two doubles and four RBI that day. Rojas has one homer, three doubles and three RBI in his last 30 games combined. He’s hit .198/.276/.283 in his last 104 games.
  • LAA Center Fielder #22
After starting four games in a row following his callup, Bryce Teodosio is out of the Angels lineup for a second straight game Friday.
The Angels are just winging it at this point, but it’s surprising that Teodosio is sitting against a lefty, especially since manager Ron Washington seems to view him as the team’s best defensive outfielder; all four of Teodosio’s starts have come in center. Mickey Moniak and Jordyn Adams both played right field when they were in the same outfield as Teodosio. Moniak is playing center and Adams right tonight.
  • HOU Left Fielder #30
Kyle Tucker is playing right field Friday for the first time since returning from a fractured shin.
Yordan Alvarez, who has spent extra time in the outfield with Tucker limited, is doing the DHing tonight. The start tonight is Tucker’s fifth in the seven games since he was activated last week.
  • HOU Second Baseman #27
Jose Altuve is back at second base on Friday after missing one game with a mild oblique injury.
Mauricio Dubón is starting in left field tonight after filling in for Altuve at second base yesterday.
  • CIN Right Fielder #30
Will Benson said his hand is feeling better now after he took a pitch off it while bunting Thursday.
Benson said he originally thought he broke one of the two fingers the ball hit, but X-rays were negative. He’s considered day-to-day.
  • ARI Catcher #14
Gabriel Moreno is likely to return next week if his adductor strain responds well to game action this weekend.
Moreno has been out for five weeks now. If the Diamondbacks want to keep Adrian Del Castillo after Moreno returns, they could cut Luis Guillorme or Kevin Newman.
  • ARI Left Fielder #12
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. will play five innings in a camp game in Arizona on Saturday.
Gurriel has missed 11 days with a calf strain. Barring a setback, he should return next week. Pavin Smith will likely do a lot more sitting once Gurriel is activated.
  • TEX Starting Pitcher #48
Rangers activated RHP Jacob deGrom from the 60-day injured list.
DeGrom will make his long-awaited return from Tommy John surgery against the Mariners tonight. It’ll be his first major league appearance since Apr. 28, 2023.
  • TEX Relief Pitcher #43
Rangers optioned RHP Owen White to Triple-A Round Rock
White made one appearance in his latest stint with the Rangers, giving up two runs in two innings Wednesday. It lowered his season ERA from 54.00 to 24.00.
  • TEX Shortstop #5
Rangers transferred SS Corey Seager from the 10-day to the 60-day injured list.
The Rangers are getting their $37 million-per-year starting pitcher back from the 60-day IL today but replacing him there is the $32.5 million-per-year shortstop. Seager is out for the season after deciding to undergo sports hernia surgery.
