  • SEA Center Fielder #10
Victor Robles (finger) is not in the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Giants.
Robles left Saturday’s game after being hit in the finger during a bunt attempt, and while imaging returned negative, it’s not a surprise to see the 27-year-old is sitting. Luke Raley is starting in center with Julio Rodriguez operating as the designated hitter against Robbie Ray and San Francisco.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #66
Julian Merryweather is beginning a rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa on Friday.
Merryweather last pitched on Aug. 25 before going on the IL with right knee tendinitis. He should be back next week if he looks good in Iowa.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #35
Gavin Stone, who went on the IL with shoulder inflammation last week, is expected to resume throwing this weekend.
If everything goes perfectly, perhaps Stone will make one appearance during the final week of the regular season. The Dodgers, though, are really aiming for the postseason here.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #20
Chris Paddack on Friday threw his first bullpen session since going down in July with a forearm strain.
Paddack is hoping to help the Twins as a reliever in the postseason. He had a 4.99 ERA in 17 starts this year before getting hurt.
  • SF Shortstop #37
Giants selected the contract of INF Donovan Walton from Triple-A Sacramento.
Walton is back in the majors for the first time since 2022. The 30-year-old utilityman was hitting .308/.380/.441 in 387 plate appearances for Sacramento. He’ll serve as an infield backup while Tyler Fitzgerald is sidelined.
  • SF Center Fielder #29
Giants optioned OF Luis Matos to Triple-A Sacramento.
Matos appears to be a victim of the Tyler Fitzgerald injury, since the Giants need an extra infielder more than outfielder at the moment. Matos was 2-for-10 with a homer since being recalled Sept. 3.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #89
Tanner Houck was scratched from his scheduled start Friday due to right shoulder fatigue.
The Red Sox had Houck slated to pitch on eight days’ rest to give him time to overcome his dead arm, but it wasn’t enough. Richard Fitts will start on four days’ rest in Houck’s place.
  • MIN Third Baseman #64
Jose Miranda is absent from the Twins lineup for a second straight game Friday.
The Twins currently seem to prefer Edouard Julien at second base and Royce Lewis at third after trying Lewis at second base last week. Neither Miranda nor Julien is hitting much at all at the moment. Kyle Farmer, on the other hand, just went 4-for-9 with two homers against the Angels earlier this week. However, he’s also out of the lineup for a second straight game.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #64
Cubs claimed RHP Jimmy Herget from the Braves and optioned him to Triple-A Iowa.
Herget, 31, has a 3.30 ERA in 30 innings in the minors and a 4.38 ERA in 12 1/3 innings in the majors for the Braves this season. The Cubs declined to add to their roster right away, but he can eat innings if someone gets hurt.
  • CHC Center Fielder #94
Cubs recalled OF Brennen Davis and placed him on the 60-day injured list with a fractured left ankle.
Davis, who was viewed as one of the game’s very best prospects after 2021, has been limited to 179 games the last three years, but unlike 2022 and ’23, he was fairly productive when he played this season, hitting .220/.369/.451 in 217 plate appearances. He hasn’t been written off just yet, but he’s definitely fallen behind other outfield prospects ion the Cubs’ depth chart.
  • LAA Catcher #14
Logan O’Hoppe is on the bench again Friday, as the Angels wanted him to have three days off in a row.
He also didn’t start Wednesday before the off day Thursday. O’Hoppe is third in the majors in inning caught this season, which might have something to do with his decline in productivity in recent weeks. Matt Thaiss is catching tonight.
