  • SD First Baseman #9
Jake Cronenworth is not in the Padres’ starting lineup for Saturday’s tilt against the Mets.
The 30-year-old infielder will get a breather with left-hander David Peterson toeing the slab for the Mets on Saturday night. Luis Arraez will cover first base for the Padres on Saturday while Donovan Solano functions as the club’s designated hitter and will bat fifth.
  • LAA Center Fielder #39
Jordyn Adams hit a walk-off single in the 13th to give the Angels a 4-3 win over the White Sox on Wednesday.
  • LAA Shortstop #9
Zach Neto walked and stole a base while scoring a run in an extra-inning win over the White Sox on Wednesday.
  • CWS First Baseman #25
Andrew Vaugh hit a solo homer in a loss to the Angels on Wednesday.
  • CWS Starting Pitcher #51
Jared Shuster blanked the Angels over three innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Wednesday.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #64
Jack Kochanowicz gave up just a run in seven innings, but also didn’t get a decision against the White Sox on Wednesday.
  • WAS Starting Pitcher #32
Trevor Williams will come off the injured list and start Friday against the Cubs.
After getting off to the start of his life this season (5-0, 2.25 ERA in 11 starts), Williams wound up missing 3 1/2 months with a flexor tendon strain. He’ll rejoin the Nationals having allowed two runs over 7 1/3 innings in two Double-A rehab starts. We wouldn’t trust him in mixed leagues versus a Cubs offense that’s been one of the best in baseball since the beginning of August.
  • NYY Right Fielder #27
Giancarlo Stanton is on the bench for the third time in four games Wednesday against the Mariners.
He will play Thursday. Stanton is healthy, but the Yankees seem to think their better off with Alex Verdugo in the outfield and Aaron Judge at DH in these matchups against tough right-handers. Stanton is in a 4-for-34 slump at the moment, though he did go 3-for-8 with two RBI and three walks against the Red Sox over the weekend.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #68
Twins sent RHP Randy Dobnak outright to Triple-A St. Paul.
Dobnak has reemerged this year as someone who might be adequate as a middle reliever and spot starter, but since he’s guaranteed $3 million next year, there was no chance of him being claimed on waivers. He had a 5.87 ERA over 7 2/3 innings in his return to the majors last month.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #46
Pirates selected the contract of RHP Jake Woodford from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Woodford will make his return to the rotation tonight against the Cardinals. He was 0-4 with a 6.95 ERA in four starts and two relief appearances for the Pirates before being removed from the 40-man last month.
  • PIT Relief Pitcher #62
Pirates placed RHP Kyle Nicolas on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Sept. 17, with a left oblique strain.
Retroactive or not, he won’t be eligible to pitch again this season. Nicolas had a 3.95 ERA and a 55/31 K/BB in 54 2/3 innings out of the Pirates pen.
