Corbin Burnes allowed six runs (five earned) in 5 2/3 innings and took the loss against the Astros on Thursday.
Burnes gave up eight hits, walked two and struck out two. Every Astros run against Burnes came in on a single. He allowed two RBI singles in the fourth inning, two more in the sixth inning, and a two-run single also in the sixth inning. Burnes wasn’t exactly hit hard as none of the hits he allowed were of the extra-base variety, but Houston had no trouble peppering him with singles. The chances of that happening increase when a pitcher isn’t missing bats and Burnes struck out only two Astros on the night. He gave up 10 hits and eight runs in his last start against Boston, but also recorded seven strikeouts. Burnes has an 8.71 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 20 2/3 innings over his last four starts. He has a 3.28 ERA, 1.13 WHIP with 146 strikeouts in 159 1/3 innings on the year. The 29-year-old right-hander is set to face the Dodgers on the road next week.
