  • LAD Shortstop #3
Dodgers activated INF/OF Chris Taylor (groin) from the 10-day IL.
Taylor was placed on the IL at the end of July and watched as the Dodgers acquired Tommy Edman in the meantime. As a result, Taylor will return to a role as a versatile bench option, which is probably fitting considering he’s hitting .167/.277/.265 in 64 games with three home runs and three steals.
  • HOU Catcher #18
Astros recalled C Cesar Salazar from Triple-A Sugar Land.
Salazar is coming up to take Ben Gamel’s spot after the outfielder was placed on the injured list with a fibula fracture. The Astros are opting to carry three catchers now with Gamel out. Salazar is 7-for-23 (.304) with no home runs and eight RBI for Houston this year.
  • HOU Left Fielder #12
Astros placed OF Ben Gamel on the 10-day injured list with a left fibula fracture.
Gamel hit .247 with one home run and four RBI with the Mets and Astros this year. He’s likely out for the rest of the season and playoffs with the left fibula fracture.
  • BAL Shortstop #63
Orioles sent INF Nick Maton outright to Triple-A Norfolk.
Maton hit .261 with 16 home runs at Triple-A, but there’s no spot for him on the Orioles. He cleared waivers after he was designated for assignment over the weekend. Maton can refuse the assignment, but either way he’ll become a minor league free agent at the end of the year.
  • PHI Catcher #41
Phillies sent C Aramis Garcia outright to Triple-A LeHigh Valley.
Garcia briefly filled in while J.T. Realmuto was hurt. He has the option to refuse the assignment, but either way he’ll become a minor league free agent at the end of the season.
  • ARI Catcher #12
Diamondbacks sent C Andrew Knizner outright to Triple-A Reno.
Knizner is a well traveled depth catcher. He has the option to refuse the assignment, but either way he’ll become a minor league free agent at the end of the season.
  • TOR Center Fielder #25
Daulton Varsho will have rotator cuff surgery on his right shoulder, according to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com.
Varsho was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, but it’s obvious now that he’s out for the season. The Blue Jays will have a clearer timeline after the surgery is performed, but manager John Schneider says the recovery could stretch into the 2025 season. Varsho was one of the best defensive outfielders in baseball this season, but struggled at the plate. The injury and potentially lengthy timeline for recovery further complicate his 2025 fantasy prospects.
  • ARI Center Fielder #4
Ketel Marte will start Tuesday’s game against the Rockies on the bench.
Marte isn’t injured, but Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo mentioned being careful with the star second baseman given the altitude in Colorado. We expect Marte to be back in the Arizona lineup Wednesday. He’s hitting .292 with 32 home runs and 87 RBI this year.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #40
Nick Lodolo will miss the rest of the season due to the finger injury he sustained last month.
Lodolo ends the year 9-6 with a 4.76 ERA in 21 starts. He gave up 13 runs in his last two outings, adding more than three-quarters of a run to that ERA. There’s a whole lot of talent here, but he’s often unavailable and he’s been quite inconsistent when he’s been able to pitch. The former probably does have something latter, of course.
  • CWS Third Baseman #10
Yoan Moncada is on the bench again for the second straight game since returning from the injured list.
White Sox manager Grady Sizemore indicated that Bryan Ramos and Miguel Vargas will play third base over Moncada before Monday’s game. It seems like Moncada is set to ride out the rest of the season on the bench. The 29-year-old has a team option for 2025 in his contract, but that seems unlikely to be picked up at this point.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #41
Andrew Abbott threw a bullpen session Tuesday and might return from a shoulder strain to make a start for the Reds next week.
It’d likely be a short start if so. Abbott has been out since Aug. 18 because o the injury.
