  • KC Starting Pitcher #24
Michael Lorenzen fired seven scoreless innings with five strikeouts in a win over the Angels on Wednesday.
Lorenzen was outstanding on Wednesday, holding the Angels off the board over seven frames. He scattered four hits and two walks while striking out five in what was his best start of the season. The 32-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 3.47 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and a 91/57 K/BB ratio across 124 1/3 innings. He’s set to take on the Guardians in Cleveland on Tuesday.
  • LAD Catcher #15
Dodgers placed C Austin Barnes on the injured list with a fractured left big toe.
Barnes has a whole new fracture in the same toe he fractured last month. The Dodgers are hopeful he’ll be able to return for the postseason, but Hunter Feduccia will likely finish out this month as Will Smith’s backup.
  • LAD Catcher #67
Dodgers recalled C Hunter Feduccia from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Feduccia went 1-for-3 with a walk in 10 days with the Dodgers during Austin Barnes’ original absence last month. He’ll resume playing behind Will Smith now.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #45
Tigers activated RHP Reese Olson from the 15-day injured list.
Olson, who missed eight weeks with a shoulder strain, will make his return to the rotation tonight against the Royals. The Tigers opted to keep Ty Madden and send down reliever Ricky Vonasco to make room for him, so they’ll have quite a bit of rotation flexibility going forward, especially with off days both Thursday and next Monday. Olson, Casey Mize and Tarik Skubal will pitch the next three days.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #57
Tigers optioned RHP Ricky Vanasco to Triple-A Toledo.
Vanasco, who was picked up from the Dodgers in July after DFA’d, made two appearances in 15 days with the Tigers, pitching a perfect inning each time.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #30
Diamondbacks recalled RHP Scott McGough from Triple-A Reno.
McGough has a 6.83 ERA in 29 innings for the Diamondbacks this season, but he was throwing well in Triple-A; his last six appearances had seen him allow one hit, walk none and struck out six in seven innings. He’ll work in middle relief.
  • ARI Catcher #25
Diamondbacks optioned C Adrian Del Castillo to Triple-A Reno.
The Diamondbacks decided the gloves of Luis Guillorme and Kevin Newman were worth more than Del Castillo’s bat with Gabriel Moreno back. That’s too bad for Del Castillo; he hit .313/.368/.525 with four homers in 87 plate appearances with Moreno out.
  • WAS Shortstop #5
CJ Abrams was deemed not yet ready to play after taking swings in the batting cage prior to Monday’s game against the Mets.
Abrams is missing a fourth straight start because of the shoulder injury he suffered Saturday. Nasim Nuñez is filling in at shortstop.
  • STL Shortstop #25
Thomas Saggese is out of the starting lineup Monday for the first time since the Cardinals called him up last week.
Saggese went 4-for-23 with a homer and a 6/0 K/BB while starting each of the previous six games. He’ll probably continue to start most of the time, since the Cardinals have switched to next-year mode.
  • COL Starting Pitcher #49
Rockies activated RHP Antonio Senzatela from the 60-day injured list.
Senzatela will face the Diamondbacks tonight in his first MLB start since May 10, 2023, when he blew out his elbow, and his third since Aug. 18, 2022, when he blew out his knee. We’re not expecting much in the way of fantasy results, but hopefully he’ll make it through these two or three end-of-season starts without anything else exploding.
  • COL Relief Pitcher #59
Rockies optioned RHP Jake Bird to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Bird had a 2.38 ERA over 11 1/3 innings in his latest stint with the Rockies. He surely drew the short straw in part because he threw 43 pitches the last two days.
