Guillorme was booted off the 40-man roster along with Willie Calhoun to make room for new Angels Niko Kavadas and Jack Lopez. He hit just .231 with no home runs and three RBI in 50 games with Los Angeles this season.

He’s leading off today, as Xavier Edwards is again absent from the lineup for some undisclosed reason.

This appears to be a consequence of the Pirates wanting to give Bryan Reynolds a partial day off as a DH and also find another start for Billy Cook. McCutchen, who hit his 20th homer last night, isn’t currently an outfield option after a series of minor to moderate leg injuries the last couple of months.

Soderstrom is 6-for-13 with two homers and three walks through four games on his rehab assignment, so one imagines he’ll be back this weekend. He’s been on the IL since July 11 with a bone bruise in his left wrist.

A late-season cameo is looking pretty unlikely here. Whisenhunt, who missed time in July and August with an undisclosed injury, has a 5.94 ERA in four starts since joining Sacramento. He’s also not someone who needs to be added to the 40-man this winter, so the Giants have some extra incentive not to promote him.

Sborz, out since Aug. 8 with shoulder fatigue, pitched on Aug. 24 and 27, but he then got a two-week break before returning to game action last night. He’ll probably need to make at least one more appearance before the Rangers activate him.

Hours after the Cardinals bypassed him and called up Thomas Saggese to help their infield. Of course, it was hard to blame them, since even though Gorman did have four homers in his first 15 games for Memphis, they came with a .200 average and a .274 OBP. He still might rejoin the Cardinals before the end of the season.

The good news is that Santos has pitched two scoreless innings on his rehab assignment as he recovers from biceps inflammation. The bad is that his velocity was off by about five mph last night, and it had Statcast classifying his fastballs as changeups.

Gonsolin averaged 93.0 mph with his 17 fastballs, putting him right in between the 92.5 mph he was at before getting hurt last year and the 93.2 mph he averaged while winning 16 games in 2022. That he’s gotten his arm back in shape so quickly has left the door slightly ajar for a return to the Dodgers this month. That wasn’t supposed to be the plan, as he didn’t have surgery until Sept. 1 last year.

Bichette figures to spend the rest of the week with Syracuse before joining the Blue Jays next Tuesday. He’s been sidelined since July due to a calf strain.

Perhaps there’s still a chance Colás will earn a late opportunity with the White Sox. He hasn’t truly earned it in hitting .247/.337/.410 for Charlotte this season, but even so, he seems more interesting than Dominic Fletcher, who has been serving as the White Sox’s primary right fielder in spite of a .215/.261/.277 line.
