  • TEX Catcher #18
Carson Kelly is starting over Jonah Heim for the fourth time in five games Wednesday against the Red Sox.
It’s warranted, considering that Kelly is hitting .333/.364/.524 in seven games since coming over from Detroit. He has a .734 OPS for the season, compared to .619 for Heim.
  • OAK Catcher #21
Tyler Soderstrom went 3-for-4 with a triple and a walk for Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday.
Soderstrom is 6-for-13 with two homers and three walks through four games on his rehab assignment, so one imagines he’ll be back this weekend. He’s been on the IL since July 11 with a bone bruise in his left wrist.
  • SF Starting Pitcher
Carson Whisenhunt gave up three runs and six hits over 3 2/3 innings Tuesday in his latest outing for Triple-A Sacramento.
A late-season cameo is looking pretty unlikely here. Whisenhunt, who missed time in July and August with an undisclosed injury, has a 5.94 ERA in four starts since joining Sacramento. He’s also not someone who needs to be added to the 40-man this winter, so the Giants have some extra incentive not to promote him.
  • TEX Relief Pitcher #66
Josh Sborz pitched a hitless inning, striking out two, after resuming his rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday.
Sborz, out since Aug. 8 with shoulder fatigue, pitched on Aug. 24 and 27, but he then got a two-week break before returning to game action last night. He’ll probably need to make at least one more appearance before the Rangers activate him.
  • STL Second Baseman #16
Nolan Gorman went 3-for-5 and hit a pair of homers for Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday.
Hours after the Cardinals bypassed him and called up Thomas Saggese to help their infield. Of course, it was hard to blame them, since even though Gorman did have four homers in his first 15 games for Memphis, they came with a .200 average and a .274 OBP. He still might rejoin the Cardinals before the end of the season.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #48
Gregory Santos walked two in a scoreless innings Tuesday in a rehab appearance for Triple-A Tacoma.
The good news is that Santos has pitched two scoreless innings on his rehab assignment as he recovers from biceps inflammation. The bad is that his velocity was off by about five mph last night, and it had Statcast classifying his fastballs as changeups.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #26
In his first game action since Tommy John surgery, Tony Gonsolin pitched two scoreless innings and struck out three for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday.
Gonsolin averaged 93.0 mph with his 17 fastballs, putting him right in between the 92.5 mph he was at before getting hurt last year and the 93.2 mph he averaged while winning 16 games in 2022. That he’s gotten his arm back in shape so quickly has left the door slightly ajar for a return to the Dodgers this month. That wasn’t supposed to be the plan, as he didn’t have surgery until Sept. 1 last year.
  • TOR Shortstop #11
Bo Bichette started at shortstop and went 1-for-3 in his first rehab game for Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday.
Bichette figures to spend the rest of the week with Syracuse before joining the Blue Jays next Tuesday. He’s been sidelined since July due to a calf strain.
  • CWS Right Fielder #22
Oscar Colás homered for the third time in four games for Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.
Perhaps there’s still a chance Colás will earn a late opportunity with the White Sox. He hasn’t truly earned it in hitting .247/.337/.410 for Charlotte this season, but even so, he seems more interesting than Dominic Fletcher, who has been serving as the White Sox’s primary right fielder in spite of a .215/.261/.277 line.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #57
Bubba Chandler allowed just one hit and struck out 10 over six scoreless innings for Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.
Chandler is on quite a roll since moving up; he has a 1.59 ERA and a 46/13 K/BB ratio in 34 innings over six starts. Including his time in Double-A, he’s up to 140 strikeouts in 114 1/3 innings for the season.
  • CLE Center Fielder #76
George Valera had to be carted off the field after suffering a leg injury for Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday.
Valera was attempting a jumping catch at the wall when he seemed to slip on the warning track and had his leg go out from under him. The 23-year-old, who missed the start of the season with a hamstring strain, was hitting .248/.337/.452 with 17 homers in 90 games. The snake-bitten former top prospect has played in 100 games just once in his minor league career.
